Universal Studios Great Britain has been generating buzz with rumors that it will host several iconic franchises, including James Bond, Back to the Future, and Jurassic World.
While none of them have been confirmed or even remotely hinted at by Universal Parks & Destinations (although reports earlier this year suggest they’re on the cards), the inclusion of a Jurassic-themed land at the resort could prove to be a thrilling venture for Universal.
But a challenging one for guests when it comes to the very unpredictable British weather.

The British Weather Is Pretty Bad Most of the Time
Anyone who has ever spent time in the U.K. knows that the rainy season can be a regular inconvenience, with persistent downpours affecting daily life throughout the year.
For an attraction like Jurassic Park, which would likely feature animatronic dinosaurs and other outdoor displays, this weather could pose a significant and very familiar problem.
In the original 1993 Jurassic Park film, the iconic life-size T-Rex animatronic famously malfunctioned during a heavy tropical downpour on the island of Kauai in Hawaii.
As the storm wreaked havoc on the set, the impressive animatronic suffered some major mechanical issues, leaving filmmakers, including director Steven Spielberg, frustrated. This challenge is one that Universal may face once again if Jurassic Park U.K. becomes a reality.

Can “Life Find a Way” for the Universal Studios GB Resort?
With a reliance on animatronic creatures like the T-Rex, the area would need to prepare for weather-related malfunctions that could arise.
That said, Universal is no stranger to weather-related challenges, especially with resorts in tropical climates like Florida and Asia. With destinations around the world, they have contingency plans for inclement weather, as well as tips on dealing with rainy days.
Furthermore, Universal Studios already features animatronics designed for water, like the shark on the Jaws Ride. The Jurassic areas throughout the resorts also include water-based rides. It’s the guests who would suffer, as the British rain is a beast in its own right.

If anything, though, those classic British downpours will probably heighten the park’s atmosphere (as for the sound of thunder—it will probably just be the power trying to come back on…). For now, we’ll have to sit tight while we wait for official confirmation of the resort’s plans. Like children in the backseat of a car during a thunderstorm.
Until then, we can only hope that the roar of the T-Rex is loud enough to drown out the sounds of the inevitable rain at the U.K. resort—just like it does in the 1993 film.
