If there’s one thing that you are sure to encounter while visiting Walt Disney World Resort, it’s lines.

There is no “slow season” anymore, so you’re unlikely to just walk on a lot of rides and attractions.

That is even more true if you want to ride popular attractions like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Seven Dwarfs Mine Trail, or Avatar Flight of Passage. During peak seasons, these attractions typically see waits of more than an hour, sometimes even two or three hours. These lines can be tiring, frustrating, and hot if they are mostly in the sun.

A lot of people prepare for these lines by getting a snack or drink or going to the bathroom before they start their wait. However, sometimes, young kids don’t have the bladder capacity to wait too long.

Most parents will take their children out of line, use the restroom, and then get back in line, as other guests are very accommodating and let them through. However, one parent is going viral for the terrible way she allegedly treated her son as they were waiting in line.

Redditor u/justalittlestupid told people not to take their kids to Disney if they are going to bully them. They said that they saw a child in line at Avatar Flight of Passage in Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The boy repeatedly told his mother that he needed to go to the bathroom. She refused to take him. Sadly, things only got worse from there:

I was in the parks from the 24th-28th, and I can’t stop thinking about what happened on my Animal Kingdom day (June 26th). We were in line for FOP, and as soon as we got into the first pre show room we noticed a little boy, maybe eight or ten at most, who kept begging his parents to take him to the bathroom. His mom kept saying he would be fine. He was begging, begging, begging. We got into the second room before the ride and we heard his mom yell to his dad “oh now this is my fault too?” and then yell at the boy “I am so angry with you right now.” When we exited the room to get to the ride we saw that the floor and the boy were all wet.

This kid had been begging to use the washroom for who knows how long. It was absolutely in no way his fault. This poor kid not only had to go through the physical discomfort but also the public humiliation AND denigration from his family. I can’t stop thinking about him and I hope someone tells him that he deserved to be treated better.

Children are just small people! Treat them with kindness!

Commenters were shocked at the woman’s callousness towards her son and how he ended up in tears. Disney is a very exhausting experience, and tempers can become short, but that doesn’t mean that children should be treated as less than.

Some commenters pointed out situations they saw where parents were not doing what they needed to as parents. Many agreed that parents are the problem, not the children who act like children.

Thankfully, there were also stories of those who witnessed what they called “top-notch” parenting in Walt Disney World. Those parents were able to tell their children how to act and how to be polite without getting angry or yelling. It is always important to remember that kids are kids, and they rely on their parents to help them navigate their busy day in a crowded theme park.
