In a development that may not surprise fans, Disney appears to be cutting back on entertainment due to staffing issues.
The Walt Disney World Resort is known for its immersive Disney experience that Guests know and love. Fans all over the world flock to the Disney Park to get their fill of the Disney magic. Disney Guests have come to expect this level of entertainment in part due to being able to frequent their favorite ride and attraction but also largely because of the incredible Cast Members that make up the Disney Theme Park experience.
According to a report from Attractions Magazine, the Walt Disney Company is not doing very well when it comes to retaining Cast Members.
Per the article,
Walt Disney World’s entertainment offerings have shrunk, as more and more cast members quit or transfer out of this once prestigious sector of the company. Walt Disney World staffing issues have hit hard this year, as more offerings and events open, but fewer people are at Disney’s disposal. With the loss of Magic Kingdom’s Minnie Mouse, sporadic closings at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and rumors of more characters going away, Disney has dropped their privacy curtain in a plea for help.
Even though Disney has been boasting profits as recently as the last quarter, it appears not all is well with the Mouse House. This week, Minnie Mouse’s character meet and greet at the Town Square Theater in Main Street, U.S.A., was removed from Magic Kingdom. The character can still be seen in the Disney Adventures Friend Cavalcade at Magic Kingdom Park and other Disney Parks.
Other fan-favorite Disney characters like Sulley, Chewbacca, and Darth Vader have also seen sporadic closures at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. According to sources for Attractions Magazine, characters are even “thinning” in the Disney Character Caravan.
This comes on the back of much backlash that the Walt Disney Company is already facing with regard to recent price hikes, issues with the Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane services, and more. But, recently when Bob Chapek spoke to these changes, he just doubled down on them.
Only time will tell what the future holds for this household name for family-friendly entertainment.
We at Disney Fanatic will continue to report on all Disney news as it comes to light.
