If you’re making plans to fly to Central Florida in the near future to visit the Walt Disney World Resort and surrounding theme parks, it looks like Orlando International Airport (MCO) has delayed its expansion despite overwhelming crowds.

In recent travel news, all Guests using public transportation are no longer required to wear masks. This includes flying on those long flights to Disney! This mask-less transportation has funneled down to the Walt Disney World Resort where masks are no longer required on the Monorail or Disney buses.

We’ve also seen the excitement of people getting back to travel after the COVID pandemic as Orlando International Airport is now ranked seventh among the busiest airports in the world! Growth is obviously needed at MCO which is why they are working hard to complete their “Terminal C” project to allow for 12 million passengers per year for the new terminal.

Just recently MCO shared a first look at the new terminal which is still a construction zone but progress on the high-tech terminal is well underway. What we previously announced as a summer 2022 grand opening has unfortunately been delayed.

MCO airport announced its new Terminal C will debut this fall beginning September 19, 2022. On April 20, @MCO tweeted, “On today’s Board meeting our CEO, Kevin Thibault, announced that the projected opening period of our South Terminal C will take place over two weeks, starting on September 19th, 2022. We can’t wait to C you there!”

Terminal C is costing MCO $2.8 billion to build, but will hopefully be well worth the money as the passenger experience is largely automated terminal and features experiences such as a giant LED interactive screen, high-tech TSA use including facial recognition, and new baggage bins and conveyor belts.

Well, Disney travelers… we wait for now but are excited to take advantage of the extra space coming soon to Orlando International Airport. In the meantime, we can’t help but ask ourselves, why doesn’t Disney just go ahead and create its own airport? Here are our thoughts!
