Recently, critics argued that a close examination of the next two years of Disney movies shows its future looks bleak, “unpromising,” and “unsatisfying.”
The Walt Disney Company has come under scrutiny for its strategy involving its entertainment division, particularly its movie releases. For a few years now, many fans have been notably frustrated with the company for its lack of originality in new movies being released and for falling back on live-action remakes to fill their coffers.
Recently, an outlet took a deep dive into the future of Disney movies for the next two years, and the prognosis isn’t particularly positive.

Journalist Outlines Underwhelming Line-Up for Disney’s Future Movies
Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic, the Walt Disney Company has had a difficult time finding its way back to dominating the box office. While Disney has had some great hits over the years, none of them have quite had the impact that some of the classic hits did—think like Frozen, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and more.
Journalist Sarah Little from ScreenRant recently took the time to do a deep dive into the upcoming release list of movies from Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios. Per Little, “the lineup of upcoming titles showcases that the production studio’s next set of movies could be unsatisfying for many viewers.”
As some fans know, the 2024 and 2025 release list has been set. The titles for many of both the live-action and animated films are already known, but there are also a fair few that are untitled. And Disney’s strategy to make up its losses is quite clear.

Disney is Focusing Only on Sequels and Pixar Movies Through 2025
Disney appears to be moving away from taking risks. Any recent original movies have not done as well as the company might have hoped (Wish and Elemental, although loved by many, did not match the numbers of an unequivocal hit). Besides this, Disney had flat-out misses like Strange World.
However, to combat this, it appears they are shifting away from taking any chances with their releases. As ScreenRant makes clear, Disney’s upcoming 2024 and 2025 films include Inside Out 2, Mufasa: The Lion King, Snow White, Elio, and Moana. Plus, Toy Story 5, Frozen 3, Frozen 4, and Zootopia 2 are in development but do not have release dates yet.

For years now, fans have made clear they want to see more high-quality original content from Disney, and some have even expressed frustration at what they feel is the company’s “woke agenda” and political pandering. Rather, were Disney to focus their efforts more on making good new movies, audiences would likely have a more favorable opinion of the company.
In fact, Disney CEO Bob Iger even clarified recently that Disney had gotten too involved in politics and the company would be making efforts to “quiet the noise” going forward.
What’s the next Disney remake?
Initially, the Snow White live-action remake featuring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot was meant to be the next big movie release. However, due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike, the release date has been delayed to 2025.
