EPCOT, the beloved Walt Disney World Resort theme park, was plagued by ride shutdowns recently, and fans were not happy.
While any Disney fan would wholeheartedly agree that going to the Walt Disney World Resort for a Disney vacation is the move, sometimes things don’t go according to plan. Especially in recent years, many developments have come to the fore when it comes to planning and prepping for a Walt Disney World vacation. From needing to save up extensively to even make the trip due to the price rises the Disney Resort has seen to doing the necessary research to make the trip an enjoyable one, there’s a lot of work to be done.
In addition, while at the parks, occasionally, things can go awry, as one guest reported recently.

Guest Shares EPCOT’s Most Recent “Plague”
A Disney World guest and Reddit user, u/OfcFury, explained how, on a recent trip to the Central Florida Disney resort, they’d experienced a large number of ride shutdowns. They explained, “Frozen Ever After was closed all day (it went down on Monday when we were here as well). Test Track has been up and down throughout the day and now Guardians is also at a temporary shut down.”
The guest concluded by asking, “Part of me feels like I’m being unreasonable expecting better since it costs more than trips used to, but am I not?”

In the comments, fans generally commiserated with the OP, adding a surprising statistic from Touring Plans.
One fan shared, “To anyone saying “breakdowns happen” or “sometimes it’s just the guests doing stupid things on the rides…Touring Plans has run the numbers and from 2020 to 2022 downtime doubled in every park except AK. And it’s gotten worse since 2022. At times it’s so bad it’s effectively cutting park capacity by 10%.”
Some guests also defended Disney, highlighting the responsibility guests have in this kind of situation. “I feel that guests doing something stupid causing rides to shut down for Internet points and Tiktoks has also doubled from 2020 to 2022.”

Of course, it is worth noting that ride shutdowns are certainly par for the course during a Disney World trip—the theme park sees a lot of traffic, and it takes a lot to keep the rides safe, secure, and up to the standard that people expect from the Mouse House.
As a consequence, oftentimes—as frustrating as it might feel—this means that rides will be offline during a Disney Park visit. This said, it’s worth noting that guests have been behaving in ways that are not quite apt for a Disney Park more frequently of late.
We have reported on guests pooping in a pool, removing their seat belts while on the Disneyland version of the Tower of Terror—Mission: BREAKOUT, and even getting in the way of lifeguard rescues.
