The complete rebuild of EPCOT’s CommuniCore and the Moana-themed “Journey of Water” exhibit showed signs of progress yesterday, as expectations and execution of once-promised plans remain uncertain.
Theme Park insider and photographer known by the handle Bioreconstruct shared new pictures yesterday on Twitter.
Starting with Journey of Water, it appears that more of the landscape and plumbing has been noticeably installed, including the signature rock.

As these construction projects continue, rumors continue to spread regarding the fate of the highly ambitious PLAY! Pavilion which was set to replace the “Wonders of Life” Pavilion. The latest unconfirmed reports state that the interactive project was canceled, becoming just the latest project in EPCOT’s revamp promised by Disney Parks at the 2019 D23 Expo to not become a reality in the near future. Those projects include an updating and revamp of the Spaceship Earth attraction and the addition of a Mary Poppins-themed section of the United Kingdom Pavilion on World Showcase. We at Disney Fanatic will continue to monitor this story and will update our readers if any official confirmations come to light.
Journey of Water is expected to open to Guests in “Late 2023. Walt Disney World Resort describes the upcoming attraction on its website as the following:
Where Water Comes to Life
Stroll along a self-guided outdoor trail where you can play and interact with water as it travels from the sky to the oceans and back again. Along the way, learn about the importance of water and discover its playful personality—just as Moana did on her heroic voyage.
Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is scheduled to open within World Nature—the EPCOT neighborhood dedicated to understanding and preserving the beauty and balance of the natural world.
We at Disney Fanatic will continue to update our readers on Disney Parks news and stories as more developments come to light.
