It’s no secret that The Walt Disney Company is currently pushing a live-action-centric agenda. Could The Princess and the Frog (2009) be next in line for the remake treatment? Here’s what we know.

In 2009, Disney released the stunning animated filmĀ The Princess and the Frog.

The movie starred Anika Noni Rose as the voice of Tiana, a young woman living in New Orleans, Louisiana who worked hard and had big dreams. Tiana turns into a frog when she accidentally kisses one, who claims he is a prince, and a conceited one at that.

Together, they must work to return to their human forms and take down the evil Dr. Facilier. The movie was full of gorgeous animation, incredible music, and delicious-looking beignets.

Disney is continuing to go all-in on live-action remakes, and the other day, a rumor started making the rounds on social media that Disney was developing a live-action Princess and the FrogĀ remake. In a YouTube video, fan site The DisInsider said that Disney had plans in the works.

They did not say where they got the information from and provided no further details. They did note a number of films that we know are being developed, like Lilo & Stitch, Hercules,Ā andĀ The Aristocats, so it was surprising to hearĀ The Princess and the FrogĀ thrown in there.

So, What’s the Deal Regarding a Live-Action Princess and the Frog Movie?

So far, it appears that thisĀ Princess and the FrogĀ remake rumor is just that, a rumor. There is no evidence that Disney has a development project in the works. Disney has not said anything about it.

Typically, the company is pretty open about their new movies in development, letting fans know what movies are coming, even if they won’t be released for the next few years.

As The Princess and the Frog rumors made the rounds amongst Disney fans, Keith David — who voiced Dr. Facilier in the original film — took to X (formerly Twitter) to share that he had not been asked by Disney to reprise the role, if the rumors were true.

Disney is going strong on its apparent desire to remake as many animated films as possible, so it is not out of the realm of possibility that they will decide to remakeĀ The Princess and the Frog. Only time will tell.

Even though Disney has not announced they are making aĀ Princess and the FrogĀ live-action film, they are still working on an animated series called Tiana. The series is set to follow Tiana, who is now the official Princess of Maldonia, as she embarks on a grand adventure. But she cannot escape the call of her New Orleans roots.

The show was supposed to be released in 2024, but Disney has removed the release date, so we don’t know when it will be coming out.

The Princess and the FrogĀ continues to remain popular with Disney fans, so it is unlikely that we have seen the last of it from Walt Disney Studios.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is being constructed at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort, which will bring the beloved story to life in a whole new way. The attraction has taken over what used to be Splash Mountain and will open at both Resorts this year.
