If you are a Disney fan, then you may know that the company is currently making a live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven DwarfsSnow White will star Rachel Zegler as the titular princess, Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan (the Prince). The film was first announced back in 2016, but Zegler was not cast until 2021, and filming did not happen until 2022.

You may also know that the movie — and Zegler in particular — has been getting a TON of backlash. The original film premiered in 1937 and the storyline is what some may consider “outdated.” Rachel Zegler has been very open about the fact that the new version of Snow White will be more modern. It will not focus solely on Snow White being a victim of the Evil Queen and waiting for a prince to come and save her.

Zegler has been very critical of the original story and admitted to only watching the original film once. She also said that she was scared when she went on Snow White’s Scary Adventures at Disneyland Park, so she turned away from the story. She also criticized the reliance on the prince, and even went so far as to call him a “stalker.”

Recently, Saltburn star Jacob Elordi spoke out about Netflix’s Kissing Booth franchise, which Elordi starred in and is responsible for launching his career. He called the three movies “ridiculous” and said that he never wanted to make them. However, he said that then, and even now, he would pretty much work for any studio that would give him a job.

“I didn’t want to make those movies before I made those movies,” he told the outlet. “Those movies are ridiculous. They’re not universal. They’re an escape.”

Even though he is insulting the studio and the movies that launched him to stardom, he was lauded as being “honest”, “straightforward”, and “pragmatic.”

Embracing the hustle with a touch of sarcasm – because who doesn’t appreciate an actor who keeps it honest while navigating the wild world of showbiz?. 😂

A straightforward perspective that captures the pragmatic side of an actor’s journey. 🎭💼🎬

Now, the hypocrisy in the treatment of Elordi — a straight, white man — is being called out as people come to Zegler’s defense.

In early 2023, Zegler attended the premiere of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, where Zegler starred as Anthea. While walking the red carpet, the actress spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and said that she took the role because she needed a job.

Zegler was slammed for her honesty, in addition to being constantly criticized for how she felt about the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. There have been hundreds, if not thousands, of people demanding that Disney fire the actress and reshoot the live-action remake with someone new in the role. The West Side Story actress has also been called a “walking PR disaster for Disney.”

That has not (yet) been said about Elordi.

I have nothing against this, he seems like a decent guy who works hard and this is a solid motivation, but it’s patently unfair that Rachel Zegler said practically the same thing at the Shazam 2 premiere and was criticized heavily for it.

Things have gotten so bad for Ms. Zegler that she even went on Instagram and said that she was “grateful” for the opportunity to play the iconic Disney princess. But she was even mocked for that by people who thought she was just trying to cover her behind.

This is not the first time that the hypocrisy surrounding Zegler has been called to attention. In the past, major stars — male stars — have insulted the movies that they were famous for. Robert Pattinson famously spoke about how much he disliked the Twilight films, in which he played the leading role of Edward Cullen.

Then there is Harrison Ford, most famously known for his roles as Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise and Indiana Jones in the franchise of the same name. Ford has been open about how he didn’t really like the role of Han Solo. He said that he felt that Han Solo didn’t have much going on. He also admitted that he told Disney and Lucasfilm that he would only return for The Force Awakens (2015) if his character was killed off.

Snow White was originally scheduled to hit theaters on March 22, 2024, but in late October, Disney announced that the film was being pushed back a year. It is now expected to be released on March 21, 2025.
