When original Imagineer Walt Disney was planning to open Disneyland Park, he was determined to make it different from any other amusement park in existence. One of the ways to do that was to make Disneyland the cleanest theme park anyone had been to. Disney history even says that guests were given pieces of gum when they entered the park. Then, they were watched to see how far it was before they dropped the wrapper on the ground. That was how Disney decided how far apart to place the trash cans.

Of course, no matter how hard Disney cast members work, there is no way to keep the theme park sparkling clean at all times. There is a lot of outdoor space and the resort is in the middle of a city. So, certain little creatures are sure to make their way to a place filled with delicious pieces of food that guests drop on the ground.

While you may expect to see some bugs or rodents outside as you walk through the parks, it is an entirely different feeling when you see a bug or a rodent INSIDE. Especially if the place you are seeing the critter is a place where you get food.

TikToker Nathan Aceo recently visited The Happiest Place on Earth to celebrate the holiday season. But what he saw while walking by the Candy Palace on Main Street, U.S.A., was anything but merry or magical. While looking in the window of the shop — where guests can see the cast members hand-making candy — he noticed an incredibly large cockroach climbing the wall.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that a Disneyland eatery has had a bug or rodent problem. Back in late July 2022, Disney was forced to close an unnamed retail location because of a rodent infestation. An Orange County Health Inspector noted “rodent droppings” in both the storage area, as well as on the sales floor. The store was only closed for a couple of days, as it was cleaned up to standard and allowed to reopen by the health department.

Then, just a few weeks ago, the Orange County Health Department forced Disney to close Refreshment Point in Disney California Adventure Park. The small snack area is located in the Grizzly Peak area of the park. According to the Health Official who did the inspection, Refreshment Point was required to close, so Disney could take care of a rodent infestation. Disney cast members worked quickly, and the location was only closed for one day.

It is always important to remember that there is no way Disney can completely eliminate bugs or rodents from making their way into the Resort. There is no dome covering Disneyland — or Walt Disney World — so, nature is sure to make an intrusion every now and again. Disney cast members do everything they can to keep things clean, but there can never be a one hundred percent guarantee. Disneyland even has a number of feral cats who roam the parks to help with any rodent issues.
