Over the past year, there has been a contentious dispute between the Walt Disney Company and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. What initially began as a disagreement over the controversial “Don’t Say Gay” bill that Florida Gov Ron DeSantis introduced in February 2022 eventually developed into a complex and prolonged conflict. As the situation has unfolded, both parties have had a constant back and forth, with neither side able to maintain a consistent advantage. However, recently, it appeared that the Walt Disney Company had out-maneuvered the Sunshine State’s Governor DeSantis, a clever move that DeSantis’s specially appointed board and the governor himself didn’t take kindly to.
As has been the case often with this battle, just as one side appears to have the upper hand, the other rebounds with renewed vigor, reigniting the dispute. Recently, in retaliation for Disney’s clever maneuver, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made it clear that he’s not backing down without a fight, spitballing more taxes, tolls, and even a possible state prison being built on the land next to Walt Disney World Resort.

However, Ron DeSantis isn’t earning himself friends with how he’s handling the situation, per the latest from Politico. As the article reported, the former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and other potential GOP presidential potentials slammed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the way he’s conducted his business with Disney.
“I don’t think Ron DeSantis is a conservative, based on his actions towards Disney,” Gov. Chris Christie said. “That’s not the guy I want sitting across from President Xi [Jinping] … or sitting across from [President Vladimir] Putin and trying to resolve what’s happening in Ukraine, if you can’t see around a corner [Disney CEO] Bob Iger created for you.”
Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, also shared his opinion on the Florida Governor, writing in a Truth Social post that DeSantis is being “absolutely destroyed by Disney.” It’s also not the first time Trump has shared his unfavorable opinion of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
For now, it remains to be seen what the next move will be in the Disney vs. DeSantis fight, and it appears neither side is pulling any punches.
