As the Conner family prepares to say goodbye in the upcoming final season of The Conners, fans are grappling with the news that several major characters won’t be returning for the show’s last chapter. While the beloved sitcom continues to resonate with audiences for its depiction of a working-class family, it will do so without some familiar faces.
The final season, slated to premiere on March 26, 2025, will be a short six-episode run that closes the book on the Conners’ journey.

However, just weeks before its premiere, one of the show’s executive producers confirmed that Johnny Galecki (David), Michael Fishman (DJ), and Estelle Parsons (Bev) will not appear in the last season, marking a major shift in the show’s dynamic.
David’s Absence: A Shift in Family Dynamics
Johnny Galecki, who portrayed Darlene’s ex-husband David, had already been reduced to a guest role in recent seasons due to his commitments to The Big Bang Theory. While his role became that of a distant, less involved father, Galecki’s absence in the final season is significant.
However, fans can still expect to hear about David’s fate. “David is very much mentioned, very much alive in the story,” said executive producer Bruce Helford. “He has more or less started life anew down in Nashville,” signaling that Galecki’s character will remain a presence in the family’s conversations.

Although fans won’t see David return, the storyline will carry his legacy, ensuring that the character is not forgotten in the family’s farewell.
Helford added that the show would not bring him back just for the sake of a cameo. “We want everyone to have something important to play,” he explained, emphasizing the importance of meaningful contributions to the story’s closure.
DJ’s Departure: The Silent Exit
Michael Fishman, who played DJ Conner, has also not been a major presence on the show since Season 5. His character, who left to join his wife overseas, has had fewer storylines in recent years.

With Fishman confirming his absence from the final season, his departure feels like the natural conclusion of a character who had already started to fade into the background. While Fishman’s exit is not unexpected, it still leaves a void for fans who followed his growth as part of the Conner family for years.
Beverly’s Absence: The End of an Era
Estelle Parsons, who portrayed Bev — Roseanne and Jackie’s mother — will also not return for the final season. At 97 years old and living in New York while the show films in Los Angeles, Parsons’ absence is a matter of logistics.

Despite not appearing on-screen, the character’s impact will still be felt as Bev’s storyline will be referenced. “We won’t see Bev interact with her family, but she will be spoken of before the series ends,” Helford confirmed.
Parsons’ departure from the series marks a poignant moment for the show. Bev’s relationship with Roseanne was often contentious, but the character’s absence leaves a significant gap in the familial dynamics that have been central to the show’s heart.
A Shortened Farewell
The seventh and final season of The Conners will air just six episodes, a shorter run than most fans might have expected for such a long-running series.

The premiere on March 26 will kick off the final season, with the concluding episode set to air on April 30, 2025. Despite the absence of key characters, the final season is expected to give a fitting closure to the Conner family’s story, wrapping up their years of ups and downs.
Since its debut in 2018, The Conners has had an eventful journey, especially considering its unconventional origins. After the cancellation of Roseanne due to Roseanne Barr’s controversial remarks, the show continued as a spinoff, picking up the pieces and moving forward without its central star.
Despite the challenges, The Conners flourished, earning renewed success and multiple seasons after its debut.
