Roseanne Barr has been a controversial person for much of her time in Hollywood. The former ABC sitcom star has often faced backlash for her questionable statements. Her comments even caused The Walt Disney Company to cancel the revival of her hit show after only a season, killing off her character in the process. However, her latest scandal involving words on the Holocaust has really taken the shock value to a whole new level.

Outrage Over Roseanne’s Holocaust Remarks

During a recent episode of the Theo Von podcast This Past Weekend, Roseanne said something that has disappointed the collective social media world. The controversial actress has been trending as people expressed outrage over her remarks about the Holocaust and Jewish people. Roseanne’s words were as follows:

Nobody died in the Holocaust either. That’s the truth. It should happen. Six millions Jews should die right now, because they cause all the problems in the world.

In the podcast, Theo Von responded to the remarks by questioning whether the actress was Jewish. She confirmed she is 100% Jewish before moving the conversation towards a different rant about the relationship between “blacks controlling rap” and “Jewish people running Hollywood.”

The star made these shocking statements while discussing the topic of Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in the presidential election versus Donald Trump. It is important to note that in the context of the conversation, Roseanne seemed to be saying these words as a sarcastic response to the argument she was trying to prove – that Joe Biden winning 81 million votes in 36 counties across the United States isn’t possible. She claimed that Biden’s win in the election was mandated as truth, and detractors were not allowed to discuss the possibility of it being rigged on social media or risk backlash.

The context hasn’t stopped people from recognizing Roseanne’s statements as reckless and disrespectful. In a time when white supremacists are waving Nazi flags on Disney property while promoting hate, words such as these can only cause further harm in their eyes.

Critics argue that jokes in this manner are not funny nor acceptable, even by someone who identifies as Jewish. There are a few people coming to her defense, saying it was just sarcasm, but the popular opinion is that these words are vile. Roseanne has not made a statement regarding the controversial remarks at this time.

A History of Controversy

This isn’t even Roseanne Barr’s first time in hot water. In 2018, Barr posted a racist tweet on Twitter, referencing a former advisor to Barack Obama. The tweet received significant backlash for its content, and ABC swiftly canceled the revival of her sitcom.

In response to the cancellation, Barr apologized and claimed that her tweet resulted from Ambien. Nevertheless, the show was ultimately rebranded as The Conners without Barr’s involvement, focusing on the rest of the cast and characters from the original series.

The Holocaust was an unimaginable tragedy in human history, marked by immense suffering and loss. Roseanne’s words, even in the context of joking, can be seen as disrespecting the family and friends that people lost during the awful period in our past. In choosing what you say involving sensitive topics, it’s best to stick to the idea that some words are better left unsaid.
