Today, a major milestone was achieved as the Spider-Man stern sculpture was successfully installed on the Disney Destiny, making Marvel history in the process. This marks the first time a Marvel character has been featured on the stern of a Disney Cruise Line ship, a signature design element that brings each vessel’s theme to life.
With the Disney Destiny themed around the dynamic battle between heroes and villains, fans have speculated that the name “Disney Marvel” may have also fit the ship’s adventurous personality. But “Destiny” still resonates—it evokes choice, consequence, and the journey of every hero.
A Concept Months in the Making
The stern character concept was officially revealed last year, showcasing Spider-Man surrounded by a swarm of energetic Spider-Bots attempting to help (or hinder) his efforts to decorate the ship’s stern. The design sparked immediate excitement among Marvel and Disney fans alike for its action-packed and playful tone.

A Word from the Imagineers
Walt Disney Imagineer Jay Abruzzese, principal production designer, appeared in a behind-the-scenes video prior to installation, where he conducted a detailed review of the sculpture’s final design, including paintwork, sculpted textures, and finishing touches. He even shared a quirky fun fact: Spider-Man’s shoe size for the sculpture is Men’s 37.

Abruzzese’s involvement reflects the close collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and the shipyard team, ensuring that every character detail aligns with the Disney Destiny’s larger story and aesthetic.
Disney Cruise Line’s Iconic Stern Characters
Spider-Man joins a lineup of beloved characters featured across Disney Cruise Line’s fleet, each one uniquely tied to the spirit of its ship:
- Disney Magic – Goofy painting the ship
- Disney Wonder – Donald Duck tangled in mishaps
- Disney Dream – Sorcerer Mickey conjuring magic
- Disney Fantasy – Dumbo soaring into place
- Disney Wish – Rapunzel with Pascal, painting the stern
- Disney Treasure – Peter Pan with a bucket of paint playfully splattering Captain Hook
- Disney Adventure – Captains Mickey and Minnie pointing toward new horizons
- Disney Destiny – Spider-Man and his Spider-Bots decorating the ship
With each addition, the stern characters have become a beloved signature of Disney’s storytelling at sea.

What’s Next for the Disney Destiny
The Disney Destiny is now in the final stages of construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The ship is set to debut on November 20, 2025, sailing out of Port Canaveral, Florida, on three, four, and five-night cruises to the Bahamas and Western Caribbean, including stops at Disney’s private islands, Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay.
As Spider-Man now watches over the seas from the stern, the Disney Destiny promises a bold new chapter for Disney Cruise Line—blending heroism, imagination, and high-seas adventure like never before.
