These EPCOT Snacks Don’t Live Up to the Hype

One of the highlights of a Walt Disney World Resort vacation is enjoying unique foods you can’t find just anywhere. While the theme parks offer familiar favorites like pizza and chicken tenders, Disney World dining goes far beyond the basics.

For food enthusiasts, EPCOT is a must-visit destination. The World Showcase features eleven pavilions, each representing a different country, with delicious dishes that will have you craving them long after your trip.

However, not all dining options hit the mark. Below are some snacks I’ll definitely be skipping on my next visit to EPCOT.

1. Chicken Teriyaki – Katsura Grill

While EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion is known for its sushi and sake, the Chicken Teriyaki at Katsura Grill is a letdown. The chicken is boiled rather than grilled, resulting in a bland, rubbery texture. The teriyaki sauce itself is forgettable, lacking the bold umami punch that could save the dish.

With so many better options available in the Japan Pavilion, you’re better off skipping this one. Instead, consider trying the sushi rolls or the ramen bowls for a more authentic and satisfying meal.

But if you are looking for some Chinese food that you are used to, Lotus Blossom Café offers dishes like Egg Rolls, Chicken Dumplings, Sweet-and-Sour Chicken, and Chicken Fried Rice.

2. Beverly Soda – Club Cool

If you’ve ever visited EPCOT’s Club Cool, you’ve probably heard of Beverly. This infamous Italian soda is bitter, herbal, and packs a flavor that lingers long after the first sip. While some adventurous guests enjoy the challenge of trying it, most find it overwhelmingly unpleasant. The best part? It’s free to sample—just don’t say we didn’t warn you!

If you’re looking for a unique beverage, consider trying the other international sodas offered at Club Cool, some of which provide a much more enjoyable taste experience.

3. Jumbo Pretzel – Sommerfest

Germany is famous for its pretzels, but unfortunately, the Jumbo Pretzel at Sommerfest doesn’t live up to expectations. Many guests report that it’s dry, lacking the soft, chewy texture that makes a pretzel great. If you do decide to give it a try, make sure to pair it with mustard or a beverage to make it more enjoyable.

This is especially disappointing because the Biergarten Restaurant serves an incredibly delicious Beer Cheese Soup! It makes us wonder why Sommerfest doesn’t offer soup as an add-on with their pretzel.

Alternatively, opt for one of the delicious bratwursts or the apple strudel at Sommerfest, which have been known to impress visitors far more than the pretzel.

4. Caramel Butter Bar – Karamell-Küche

I know what you’re thinking — I’m crazy for putting one of EPCOT’s most popular treats on the list. But hear me out: while the Caramel Butter Bar might be the top choice at Karamell-Küche, that doesn’t necessarily make it the best.

Given that it’s called a “butter bar,” the crust is a rich, buttery shortbread. However, adding a second layer of crust makes it a bit overwhelming. Instead of having a nice buttery flavor, the bar ends up feeling more oily.

If you’re looking for a sweet treat, the Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel or Caramel Pecan Bar might be a better option. Those treats strike the right balance between sweetness and texture, making them a favorite among guests.

And don’t forget to grab a bag of freshly popped caramel popcorn! You won’t regret it!

5. Lotus Blossom Café – China Pavilion

While not the absolute worst, the Lotus Blossom Café in the China Pavilion has earned a reputation for serving uninspired, Americanized Chinese food. Many guests compare it to fast-casual chains, noting that it lacks the authenticity and depth of flavor found in other World Showcase eateries.

If you’re craving Chinese cuisine, you might have a better experience at one of EPCOT’s festival food booths, which frequently feature rotating selections of more authentic and exciting dishes.

But, if you find yourself yearning for familiar Chinese food, Lotus Blossom Café serves dishes like Pork Egg Rolls, Chicken Dumplings, Sweet-and-Sour Chicken, and Orange Chicken

Taste is subjective, and what one person dislikes, another may love. However, if you’re looking to maximize your dining experience at EPCOT, these snacks might not be the best choice.

Whether it’s a dry pretzel, an underwhelming pastry, or an overhyped festival dish, there are plenty of other amazing treats to enjoy throughout the park.

Instead of these, consider opting for EPCOT fan favorites like the Croissant Donut at the Refreshment Port, the Fish and Chips at the UK Pavilion, or the Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich at L’Artisan des Glaces. These beloved snacks have earned their reputations as must-try treats, making them a better bet for your next visit.

Have you tried any of these items? What’s your go-to snack at EPCOT? Let us know in the comments!
