Universal Orlando Confirms JAWS and Ghostbusters Return After Years Missing From the Parks

Universal Orlando has changed dramatically over the last decade. Entire lands have disappeared, new worlds have taken their place, and the resort has evolved into something far bigger than many fans ever imagined during the early Universal Studios Florida years.

But while Universal continues charging toward the future with Epic Universe, new coaster technology, and immersive themed lands, the company also seems to be embracing something else lately: nostalgia.

And for longtime fans, this summer is shaping up to be one of the biggest nostalgia-driven seasons Universal Orlando has had in years.

That is because two legendary franchises that once helped define Universal’s identity are officially returning to the resort this summer — JAWS and Ghostbusters.

While these are not permanent attraction revivals, their return still feels significant. Both franchises have been largely absent from the parks for years outside of occasional merchandise, Halloween Horror Nights appearances, or tribute references. Now, Universal is putting them front and center once again.

Universal’s Summer 2026 Event Is Packed With Classic Movie Nostalgia

Universal Orlando recently confirmed a major lineup of limited-time summer offerings running from May 23 through August 10, 2026. The event includes themed entertainment, specialty food, merchandise, nighttime offerings, and interactive experiences spread throughout the resort.

Two of the biggest names involved immediately caught longtime fans’ attention.

Universal confirmed new JAWS-themed experiences inside Universal Studios Florida, including specialty bites and drinks, themed photo opportunities, and exclusive merchandise inspired by the iconic shark film.

At the same time, Ghostbusters is once again becoming highly visible throughout the resort.

The Universal Mega Movie Parade will return this summer featuring Ghostbusters alongside franchises like Jurassic World, Minions, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), and JAWS itself. The parade has quickly become one of the most popular entertainment offerings at Universal Studios Florida because it heavily leans into the company’s classic film history.

For fans who grew up with the original Universal Studios Florida park, seeing Ghostbusters and JAWS back in the spotlight feels like a major moment.

JAWS Still Means Everything to Original Universal Fans

Few closures in theme park history hit fans harder than the loss of JAWS.

When Universal permanently closed the attraction in 2012, it marked the end of one of the most iconic rides in the resort’s history. The attraction had been part of Universal Studios Florida since opening day in 1990 and became famous for its practical effects, exploding gas dock finale, live skippers, and terrifying shark encounters.

Even guests who never visited the park during the original era still know how beloved JAWS became.

The attraction represented something unique about early Universal Orlando. It blended live-action storytelling, movie magic, pyrotechnics, animatronics, and humor in a way that perfectly captured the original studio park concept.

Of course, most fans understood why Universal removed it.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley completely transformed the resort financially and creatively. Still, the closure left a hole in the park’s identity that many longtime guests never fully got over.

That emotional connection is exactly why Universal continuing to revisit JAWS matters so much.

The franchise has slowly become more visible again over the last several years through merchandise collections, tribute stores, anniversary offerings, and special events. Now, Universal is pushing it back into the guest experience in a bigger way this summer.

Ghostbusters Keeps Finding Its Way Back

Ghostbusters has had an interesting history at Universal Orlando.

The franchise once had a much larger role at the resort, especially during the early Universal Studios Florida years when live entertainment played a major role in the park experience. Over time, Ghostbusters also became one of the most beloved Halloween Horror Nights properties ever used by Universal.

Even after the original film series faded from mainstream attention for a while, fans at Universal never really stopped caring about it.

Now, the property appears to be making another strong comeback inside the parks.

In addition to the Mega Movie Parade, Ghostbusters is also appearing across Universal Orlando’s hotels this summer. A massive Ghostbusters-themed sand sculpture is currently being built inside the Hard Rock Hotel as part of a resort-wide summer celebration happening across all 11 Universal hotels.

That type of visibility feels intentional.

Universal clearly understands how much nostalgia still exists around the franchise. The company could easily focus entirely on newer intellectual properties, but instead it continues making space for classic films and longtime fan favorites.

Universal Is Learning the Power of Nostalgia

What makes this entire situation fascinating is how much Universal Orlando’s strategy has evolved.

For years, the resort focused heavily on modern blockbuster franchises and cutting-edge experiences. Harry Potter changed the industry. Nintendo pushed interactive theme park technology forward. Epic Universe expanded Universal into a completely new era.

But alongside all that innovation, Universal has also realized how valuable its classic film library really is.

The Mega Movie Parade itself proves that. The entire concept celebrates Universal’s cinematic legacy rather than focusing only on current releases. JAWS, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future (1985), and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial are not just being acknowledged quietly in stores anymore. They are becoming major pieces of the guest experience again.

Even Universal CityWalk is joining in through a Summer Movie Series featuring screenings of classic films including JAWS and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

That is not happening by accident.

Universal understands that nostalgia has become one of the strongest emotional connections in modern theme park entertainment. Fans want innovation, but they also want the properties that shaped their childhood vacations and movie memories.

Could Bigger Returns Eventually Follow?

Naturally, the return of JAWS and Ghostbusters has already sparked bigger conversations among fans.

Whenever Universal starts increasing visibility for older franchises, speculation immediately begins about future attractions, haunted houses, interactive walkthroughs, or permanent entertainment offerings.

Could Ghostbusters eventually receive another major park presence? Could Universal someday revisit JAWS in a larger way beyond seasonal experiences and merchandise?

Nothing has been announced, and right now these remain limited-time summer offerings.

Still, the fact that Universal continues investing in these properties at all says a lot.

For years, many fans believed both franchises had largely disappeared from Universal Orlando forever. Instead, they are now becoming central parts of the resort’s summer entertainment lineup once again.

And for longtime Universal fans, that return feels long overdue.
