The highly-anticipated Journey of Water attraction has finally gotten an opening date, and it will soon be upon us!
One of the most exciting events at a Disney Park is the opening of a new attraction, especially one that has been talked about and hyped up for years. Earlier this year, the opening of TRON: Lightcycle/Run was one of the most thrilling openings that the Magic Kingdom and Walt Disney World had seen in years. Now, there’s another attraction that will soon make its mark on the Central Florida Disney resort.

Journalist Scott Gustin, who attended one of the preview dates for EPCOT’s Journey of Water, shared high praise for the attraction.
He explained, “Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, surpassed my high expectations – and it’s so much fun with a small group. Sunset/nighttime is when the area is most impressive.”
Finally, Gustin also shared that come October 16, the experience would finally open at EPCOT, allowing Moana fans to indulge in the world they have loved watching first on the big screen and then in their homes since 2016. The announcement was made during Destination D23.
Disney Parks and Walt Disney World also took to Instagram to share the news:

The attraction has received rave reviews from others as well, with one fan commenting, “I thought it was fantastic. I did it when the sun was setting and stuck around until it was dark. It’s a beautiful space to explore. I don’t understand why people hate on it so much already.”
Another agreed, “Awesome and so good to know. Excited to see this in person one day.”
How Did the Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, Come To Be?
Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, was first announced at the 2019 D23 Expo Media preview; former Disney CEO Bob Chapek described the attraction as “an exploration trail” at the time. It was initially set to open in 2021 for Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary celebration but the opening was postponed.
Since then, we have learned a lot about the attraction and the area, and Disney has completed the life-size Te Fiti statue that will also mark the attraction.
The walkthrough attraction is a “whimsical exploration” of the water cycle, delving into how it sustains our world—the perfect addition to EPCOT and World Nature.
