One of the biggest celebrity singers in the world is Taylor Swift. The 33-year-old from West Reading, Pennsylvania, shot into the spotlight when she released her first album in 2006. She was only a teenager, but wrote all of her own songs. Since then, Swift has released nine additional albums and has millions of fans around the world. She is currently touring the world on her sold-out Eras Tour, which is one of the most in-demand tours in history. Fans have spent thousands of dollars just to get a glimpse of the singer in person.
In late August, Swift announced that those who were lucky enough to score tickets to a show would not be the only ones who would be able to experience the concert. Swift’s concert had been filmed and would be released on the big screen in October. Tickets to the AMC event went on sale on August 31 and, within a day, became one of the most successful theatrical pre-sale events of all time.

After Taylor’s Eras Tour documentary is released in theaters, that leaves one big question…
What About Streaming?
In this day and age, it’s all about streaming. Movie theaters have been open about their struggles since streaming became so popular during the pandemic. And a good movie can bring in tons of money to a streamer. So, with a Taylor Swift documentary up for grabs, streamers may be desperate to get their hands on it.
But one TikToker thinks that the documentary will end up in the hands of Disney.
Alex Antonides (@alexantonides) released a video detailing some of the fun extras theaters would have available — like limited edition Eras Tour popcorn buckets and cups. Then, he moved on to streaming.

Alex says Swift’s documentary may most likely end up on Disney+ around the holiday season. Taylor has been working with Amazon, but he pointed out a couple of things. One, Good Morning America had the exclusive news that Swift’s tour had been filmed for a documentary. Good Morning America is owned by ABC, which is owned by Disney.
According to Alex, Swift also “owes Disney+ a project or two.” There is already one Taylor Swift program on Disney+ — taylor swift: folklore: the long pond studio sessions.
The Save Disney+ Needs
It is no secret that Disney has been struggling with its streaming platform. Initially seeing big numbers — thanks in large part to the pandemic — Disney+ has been a drain on Disney’s bank account. Each quarter, Disney+ loses millions of subscribers and costs the Mouse House hundreds of millions of dollars. Disney has been purging a ton of content from the platform as Disney CEO Bob Iger tries to stem the bleeding.
Having exclusive rights to stream the Eras Tour could be the boost that Disney+ has been desperate for.
As Alex mentioned, Disney also owns Hulu. It’s possible that should Disney get the rights to the documentary, they release it on both platforms, hoping to drive subscriber growth. Hulu isn’t hurting as much as Disney+ and is one of the largest and most popular streamers. So, if Disney does decide to put it on Hulu, it may be after it is released on Disney+.
