In a story that isn’t quite what it seems, a woman was shunned for getting in the way of her neighbor’s Disney World vacation.

We at Disney Fanatic have reported on many stories in the past of guests doing everything in their power (including the illegal) to get that sought-after Disney World vacation. Some have stolen hundreds and thousands of dollars, and others have made it happen more legally.

Regardless, having that Disney World trip come to pass is an accomplishment for many.

Woman Asks “AITA” for Not Letting Neighbors Borrow Car for a Long Trip

In a Reddit post that detailed an unfortunate incident between two women and families, the OP began her story.

She’d found a new home in this neighborhood two years prior to the incident. The neighborhood featured a tight-knit community and the OP had been incredibly happy living there. The OP was not married and had no children, she did care for her disabled mother, who lived with her six to eight months of the year.

She explained that one of her neighbors had a daughter who was severely disabled: non-verbal and wheelchair-bound. Noting how much the other family struggled, and seeing that they didn’t have an appropriate vehicle to transport their disabled child, the OP decided to offer some help and be of service.

The OP had a minivan that she customized to allow wheelchair access; she offered it to her neighbors to use, provided the OP wasn’t already using it to help her mother.

This arrangement worked out well for eighteen months.

However, all soured when the neighbors insisted on using the car to go on a trip to Disney World since they were taking their children to the Central Florida Disney resort for the first time.

Unfortunately, the road trip the family was planning lasted just over two weeks, and the OP’s mother was going to be coming to her daughter’s home right after the family left. Since the OP wanted to be able to bring her mother back from the airport comfortably, she asked her neighbors to consider pushing the trip by a few days so that she could pick her mother up.

The neighbors, however, refused. So, when the OP put her foot down and refused to let them borrow the minivan, they called her selfish and bad-mouthed her to the entire community in the neighborhood.

The community, in turn, turned into a hostile living environment and the OP didn’t know what to do.

Many responded to the OP’s story and confirmed she wasn’t at fault in the situation. They even went so far as to call any person who turned on the OP a “false friend.”

Another pointed out that the agreement was that the neighbors could use the minivan provided the OP didn’t need it, and the OP clearly needed it.

Some others also called the sudden change in behavior from the community “toxic” and suggested the OP find more honest people to live with.

What do you think of this situation? Was the OP at fault?
