Walt Disney World Resort has officially introduced its new gear, the MagicBand+. But with video surfacing of MagicBand+ being worn during Magic Kingdom and EPCOT’s nighttime spectaculars, fans are speaking out with not-so-great reviews.

Just like the regular MagicBand, the new MagicBand+ will allow Guests to purchase a band design to wear on their wrist. Guests can link the MagicBand+ to their My Disney Experience profile, making it easy to tap to enter a Disney Park, scan for PhotoPass moments, and easily access attractions purchased via the Disney Genie+ and individual Lightning Lane attractions.

As usual, it also allows Disney Resort Hotel Guests to access their Disney Resort Hotel room with the MagicBand+ acting like a room key. Resort Guests can also use their MagicBand+ as a charging device when purchasing food, merchandise, etc., around Walt Disney World Resort, with charges going back to the room credit card on file.

The excitement of the new MagicBand+, however, surrounded its ability to interact with the nighttime spectaculars, including Magic Kingdom’s “Disney Enchantment” and EPCOT’s “Harmonious.”

Here are two videos as posted by @ScottGustin with the MagicBand+ being worn at Harmonious and Disney Enchantment:

Is this what you expected the new MagicBand+ to do during the nighttime spectaculars?

The responses to the videos are rather brutal, with comments such as “absolute joke,” “so pointless,” “If you’re watching a fireworks show why would you be watching your wrist – not sure I get this feature,” and “Not really impressive, but then again, at 35usd this is what I was expecting from Disney given their usual prices.”

More comments mention previous light-up experiences, noting, “Disney comes out with something like this every couple of years it always falls flat.”

One comment asks, “what were people expecting,” with the response that “this project is purely a waste of talent and money that could be used elsewhere.”

The new MagicBand+ doesn’t only interact with the nighttime spectaculars but also lights up for the Beacons of Magic, including Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park, Spaceship Earth at EPCOT, Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

PLUS – Guests can also use the new MagicBand+ to interact with the Disney Fab 50 golden sculptures throughout the four Parks, as well as interact with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge via Play Disney Parks App.

The MagicBand+ pre-arrival choices in My Disney Experience App provide a $10 discount for Disney Resort Guests, with pricing for solid color bands being $34.99 ($24.99 with discount) or designed bands at $44.99 ($34.99 with discount).
