A short-lived but charming Disney show has left the Animal Kingdom recently — but it seems that not all of the Walt Disney World Resort staff received the memo!

Advertisements for the Animal Kingdom show called KiteTails are reportedly circulating on the Internet, even though the show has already had its final performance in the midst of Hurricane Ian. Take a look at this ad from Facebook, which encourages viewers to head to the Animal Kingdom and see KiteTails in action!

New daytime entertainment is stirring at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, as “Disney KiteTails” comes alive several times daily beginning Oct. 1, 2021, at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Performers fly windcatchers and kites of all shapes and sizes, while out on the water elaborate three-dimensional kites – some stretching to 30 feet long – depict Disney animal friends, including Simba, Zazu, Baloo and King Louie. KiteTails was an Animal Kingdom water-based show that ended earlier this autumn. The show (which featured performers on jet-skis and kites portraying characters like Simba from the 1994 movie The Lion King) was meant to have its final performance on Friday, September 30, but Hurricane Ian caused the show to have just as underwhelming a finale as its opening since Disney World was still in the process of a phased reopening and the last show could not go on.

KiteTails was meant to be a special show for the Walt Disney World Resort 50th anniversary, so many Disney Guests overlooked the show’s constant embarrassments and failures. In a way, the only possible finish for the kite performances was always going to be crash landings, so the KiteTails show was set up for some less-than-impressive endings from the get-go.

As one fan put it, “When it worked it was absolutely beautiful. When it didn’t, it was such an entertaining…disaster. No matter what you left that show with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.”

This somehow endeared the show to Animal Kingdom Guests — which is why a lot of Disney World fans were actually disappointed when the show’s closure was announced, and then were equally surprised when they saw the show being advertised recently after it no longer existed. “Smart to show something that is ending soon,” one Disney fan commented jokingly — indicating that this ad has been up for quite a while.

Disney World has made many faux pas lately when it comes to online posts — including a particularly upsetting announcement about Annual Passes, which turned out to be inaccurate and made many Annual Passholders very distressed — so this is not the first time that we have taken a Disney-related social media post with a grain of salt!
