Guest Claims Man Used Child to Rob Them at Magic Kingdom

When you drive through the entrance to Walt Disney World Resort, it feels like you have entered a magical realm where nothing bad can happen. And it’s pretty easy to feel safe while you are visiting the four theme parks, the two water parks, Disney Springs, and any Disney World Resort hotel. Disney Cast Members and Disney security work very hard to make sure that nothing dangerous is brought into The Most Magical Place on Earth. Security will also act swiftly to remove or arrest Guests who may be frightening or acting volatile towards other Guests or Cast Members.

However, Walt Disney World Resort is still in the real world, and not all the people who visit have the best intentions. It’s always easy to point out a bad Guest when they are yelling and cursing, but some bad Guests try to fly under the radar. One woman, unfortunately, encountered one of these Guests while she and her family were visiting the Magic Kingdom. The woman shared her story on Reddit, surprisingly thanking the man, and also warning other Guests about how some Guests will try to rob you.

According to Redditor u/BirdsAreRubbish, a man used two children in an attempt to rob her while she and her family were waiting for the Happily Ever After fireworks to begin. The woman first noticed one of the man’s “children” touching her child’s toys. She asked the boy if he had his own toys, and the man got aggravated at the question. While she was talking to the man, his other “child” went through her backpack.

We only chatted once briefly during the 9 pm fireworks, when your son (or at least, the little boy who was with you) was touching my kids’ toys that were near our stroller, and I politely asked him if they were his, which you retorted, “we have our own toys” in an aggressive manner.

I didn’t realize that you likely trained your son to do this because I was distracted by his hands on our things; either you or your daughter(/the little girl you were with) opened my backpack to dig your hand inside. You’d left it open, which tipped me off, and when I searched it, noticed the Magic Kingdom map and a novelty pin were missing, but [thankfully] nothing more.

Thankfully, the Redditor had not left her wallet in her backpack, as so many people do. However, the woman didn’t express anger at the man. Instead, she thanked him for making her realize how lucky she was.

I want you to know that my husband and I lost our jobs when the pandemic hit. He and I retrained, found new and meaningful work, and visiting Disney World was our first family vacation… ever.

I want to thank you for making me realize how far we’ve come. Had you successfully taken my wallet, I could comfortably live without the modest amount of cash and cards that were in it. I could call my banks and cancel them with no problem. In previous years, I would have been absolutely devasted, but here now, as a well-paid professional enjoying the first vacation with my kids of many, I have to sincerely extend my gratitude to you for highlighting our achievements and the fact that petty theft would be a minor inconvenience to us now.

This unknown thief is not the first parent who uses their children to help them commit robberies. Thankfully, he wasn’t able to get this woman’s wallet. Sadly, her story of the robbery is not the only one that has happened at Disney. Guests frequently report having items stolen from their bags, or even more commonly, off of their strollers when they park them to go on attractions.

Should you find yourself in the same situation as this Guest, it is recommended that you immediately find Disney security or go to Guest Services to report their Guest. Try to describe the thief as best you can, that way security can keep an eye out for the person. It is unlikely that the Redditor was the only person targeted by the man while he was in the Parks.
