Is Walt Disney World going downhill?

The Walt Disney Company has been under much scrutiny lately. Whether deserved, exaggerated, or honest is another conversation.

But in the past couple of years, it has been criticized for getting involved in Florida politics and accused of being “woke.”

Disney Standards

Separate from those issues, however, many people have pointed out what they believe to be slipping in Disney standards. Both in the movies the company produces (many of which have been flops) and the upkeep of its theme parks and hotels.

This is also to say nothing of the falling stock price, rumors of the company being sold to Apple, and the proxy fight over board seats in the next month.

But when it comes to the domestic theme parks specifically, there have been many complaints and concerns from die-hard Disney fans. There has been a recent uptick of violence at the Happiest Place on Earth and the Most Magical Place on Earth.

In addition, many people and Disney reporters have pointed out cleanliness slipping in the parks, as well as cast member customer service and overall ride maintenance.

In the post, the user states that “there was a time where they would have pressure washed this at night.” They also call out bird feces, spider webs, and “mystery dirt.”

Comments on the post include a mix of people defending Disney and questioning whether messes like that were always there…and are only now focused on because of smartphones and social media.

Savethemagic replied to that suggestion, claiming that Disney’s cleanliness was once legendary.

Another user stated that they have seen “a major decline in cleanliness, customer service, and maintenance.” But they then follow it up with, “That said, Disney is still better than the rest.”

About Steven

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
