1978 was a long time ago—46 years, to be exact. Jimmy Carter was president and a one-day pass at Magic Kingdom Park cost $8.

A Disney TikTok Discovery

A TikToker recently discovered what he thought was an old family keepsake…was an old ticket to Magic Kingdom Park. Upon closer inspection, he noticed that it had never been used for years, and unlike modern Walt Disney World Resort tickets, it had no expiration date.

As many Disney Fanatics may or may not know, Disney Park tickets used to never expire. And although this isn’t the case with this current TikToker, Disney tickets used to include the park hopping option for free. But that was a long time ago…

The TikTok user decided to head down to Orlando, visit Walt Disney World Resort, and see what would happen if he tried to enter it using the 46-year-old Disney theme park ticket.

Disney Cast Member Response

He headed over to guest services and explained the situation to them. Next, it appears the Disney cast member explained that since it was a ticket to Magic Kingdom Park…it could only be used at Magic Kingdom Park (however, this part seems edited out).

Next, the TikToker describes that he became nervous as the cast member aggressively stamped “VOID” all over the 1978 ticket. Then she disappeared into the back room.

Eventually, though, she reappeared with a modern, one-day pass for Magic Kingdom Park and handed it over to the gentleman. Fast forward a few minutes later, and he shows the ticket, getting him into The Most Magical Place on Earth.

Perhaps he lost what he thought was a dust-collecting family keepsake. But what he got in return is a day full of memories that would cost a person $164 today.

Although some have taken this story and turned it into a conversation about how the Disney ticket price has increased over 20X in the past 46 years, others have focused on Walt Disney World Resort’s fantastic customer service.

Very few businesses today would accept a transaction from that long ago. Many retailers will fight you when you try to return a shirt a day later…and you have the receipt.

Although the $8 Walt Disney World ticket price may be from a bygone era…so is the customer service that Walt Disney World Resort still provides.

About Steven

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
