Pirates of the Caribbean is one of The Walt Disney Company’s largest and most popular franchises. In a time when Star Wars and Marvel movies seem to have cooled off, Pirates of the Caribbean still appears to have a significant fan base.

Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Park…in the Caribbean
The Disney movie was filmed in Wallilabou, St. Vincent in the Caribbean. As such, the Minister of Tourism in St. Vincent has announced plans for a Pirates of the Caribbean theme park.

The state-of-the-art theme park is intended to open in 2025. Its plans include dining, a pool, and beach access. The minister of tourism, Carlos James, states, “Our hotel, restaurant, shops, and customs office were made into the village of Port Royal, which was the famous pirate town in Jamaica.”
Land is currently being scouted for the ideal location of the new theme park.
Partnership with Disney?
But it is unclear how Wallilabou, St Vincent, could create a theme park based on a Walt Disney Studios intellectual property without the permission of the Walt Disney Company.

The article featuring the story here credits the Disney movie but mentions no official partnership or licensing agreement with Disney.
However, it is possible that the island could develop a generic-pirate-themed amusement park (or resort) without explicitly mentioning official Disney characters or copyrighted elements.
But would a Pirates of the Caribbean theme park interest people without Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Barbosa, Will Turner, Davy Jones, Elizabeth Swan, the Black Pearl, and other iconic movie characters and elements?

In any event, construction is expected to begin this year. The theme park (if developed) is expected to help boost tourism to the area.
It’s unlikely to resemble a Walt Disney World Resort theme park. But who knows?
