The Barbie movie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is one of the biggest films of the year. Aside from making billions of dollars, the film also received more than one Oscar nomination (including Best Picture).

Among these are an Academy Award nomination for Ryan Gosling as Best Supporting Actor.

Just Ken?

Many in Hollywood and throughout the internet have questioned the nomination, especially since Margot Robbie wasn’t nominated for Best Actress and director Greta Gerwig wasn’t nominated for Best Director. But regardless of these Academy Award snubs, somehow the Barbie star Ryan Gosling resonated.

However, Ryan Gosling, whether he wins an Academy Award for his role as Ken or not, is currently one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.

Although he has always been a staple of cinema with roles such as Noah in The Notebook (2004) and Sebastian in La La Land (2016), Barbie is giving a bump to his career.

Ryan Gosling in the MCU

There is a current rumor that Ryan Gosling may be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reports started surfacing last fall, but a new one has taken form, stating that he is being eyed to play Nova, one of the Nova Corp members featured in Guardians of the Galaxy.

There are multiple versions of Nova, that Gosling could portray. Some speculate that he would likely be cast as Richard Rider, the most famous Nova Corps hero.

Nova also was a founding member of The New Warriors in the comics, and played a key role in the Annihilation event across Marvel Comics.

Injecting Ryan Gosling into the MCU could be just what the franchise needs. The past few MCU films have not performed that well at the box office. The MCU’s latest flop was The Marvels (2023), which is estimated to have lost $300 million.

About Steven

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
