When Disney Fanatics think about their ideal dream Disney home, they usually think of luxurious fare like this Beauty and the Beast house near Walt Disney World Resort or on-the-nose fare like this no-holds-barred Rapunzel tower across the pond.

However, this British Little Mermaid fan’s recently-renovated Disney house has just proved that you can turn any room into a Disney-movie-themed room for less than $200!

“I’ve always loved Ariel,” Gloucester resident Mel Hamblett revealed in an interview with Ruggable. “Her curiosity and passion made her such an admirable character, while the colour palette and music from the movie are so joyful, it’s always been my favourite. I even have a half-sleeve tattoo dedicated to different scenes in the movie, I love it so much.”

“What really helped to keep the cost down was using what we already had, sprucing them up with paint to make them look new,” Hamblett explained. “For example, I painted our tiles with primer and paint, then sealed to protect them, finishing with a grout pen to ensure a fresh, clean look.”

The most expensive feature “was the custom vinyl flooring which was around ÂŁ80.”

“I also spray painted our taps using primer, gold brake calliper spray and glitter spray which saved us hundreds compared to buying brand new taps and fittings,” the thrifty mother continued.

“I upcycled mirrors, an old shelf and the bathroom sink unit with paint and seashell vinyl, and also installed a vinyl around the window to add a pop of mermaid pattern, too.” Take a look at the gorgeously-updated bathroom in the photos above!

Hamblett also put Disney decor into the rest of the house “in more subtle ways,” such as the neon sign shown below in a bedroom. According to this 34-year-old mother, the sign is “a nod to the cave of wonders from Aladdin, as well as an expression of our lives with a young child.”

Hamblett actually pointed out another unexpected location for Disney themes, as well: your yard!

“It’s not just the inside interior we have made Disney-themed,” Hamblett explained. “Our garden has a lot of tropical plants and coloured lights, which take inspiration from Pandora and Adventureland.”

This will be particularly handy if you love Disney and want to represent Disney in your home, but your spouse or other family members are far less interested!

Hamblett’s logistical tips for Disney decorating included “using collage apps to mock up mood boards of furniture or patterns before investing in them [to] ensure you like the vibe of the room before you put any paint on the walls” and using “low tack masking tape” to protect walls.

When it comes to more general design advice, this Little Mermaid aficionado also has some tips!

“Consider the Disney parks and hotels for inspiration,” Hamblett advises. “They are all so beautifully themed that it’s a great place to form ideas or colour palettes for rooms without being too obviously Disney.”

The new Little Mermaid-themed suites at this Walt Disney World Resort hotel (shown above) definitely have potential when it comes to inspiration!

If you’re a Disney fan who hopes to avoid any obvious or potentially-tacky displays, but who still wants to show off your love for a certain Disney film or aesthetic (even if you’re the only one who will notice it), then Hamblett also suggests turning to social media platforms like Instagram or Pinterest!

Are you planning a budget-conscious Disney home renovation — or would you rather save up for a retirement location as lavish as this ode to Disney?
