If there is one thing Disney is all about right now, it’s live-action remakes. Disney has been doing live-action remakes for years, but now they are releasing multiple remakes a year. Some of these remakes — like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin — have been absolute hits. Others, like Dumbo, Pinocchio, and The Lion King, have been less successful. However, Disney is not slowing down and is releasing several this year, including The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan & Wendy.
Disney also has several live-action remakes moving full steam ahead in production. They have announced Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Hercules, The Aristocats, and Lilo & Stitch. Snow White will be released in 2024. Release time frames have not been announced for Lilo & Stitch or Hercules. However, Disney has recently made a number of casting announcements for Lilo & Stitch.
However, one of the announcements that were NOT made was who would be Cobra Bubbles — the child services agent assigned to keep an eye on Nani and Lilo. In fact, fans were worried that Mr. Cobra Bubbles would not have a role in the new movie at all. Just a few days ago, Disney announced that Jolene Purdy would be playing Child Services agent Mrs. Kekoa.
However, we can now confirm that Mr. Bubbles WILL indeed be in the new live-action remake. And he will be played by beloved actor, Courtney B. Vance. News of the casting was first confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Neither Disney nor Vance has commented on the casting announcement.
Vance will join Maia Kealoha, a newcomer, who will play Lilo. Sydney Elizebeth Agudong will play Lilo’s sister, Nani, and Kahiau Machado will play David Kawena, Nani’s love interest. Back in February, it was announced that Zach Galifianakis would be playing the role of Pleakley — one of the aliens sent to retrieve Experiment 626 — AKA Stitch.
Dean Fleischer Camp is signed on to direct the live-action Lilo & Stitch. Fleischer Camp is known for directing the Oscar-nominated animated film, Marcel the Shell With Shoes On. Chris Kekaniokalani Bright wrote the script for the adaptation. Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois wrote and directed the original feature. They will be credited with creating the original characters.
Disney has not announced a release date for the film. Disney Fanatic will keep readers updated as we learn more!
