If there is one thing that we know about The Walt Disney Company, it’s that they know how to make a movie. Disney is known for some of the greatest animated films of all time, including Cinderella, The Lion King, Toy Story, Bambi, Beauty and the Beast, and so many more. Over the past decade, Disney has decided to take some of its most classic and popular animated films and turn them into live-action remakes. People love some live-action remakes as much as the original, like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Other remakes, like The Lion King, Pete’s Dragon, and Pinocchio have not fared as well.

Despite some low lows, Disney has doubled down on its live-action remakes and seems to be making more of those than telling original stories. In fact, live-action remakes have become quite a point of contention amongst Disney fans. This year alone, Disney has multiple live-action remakes on the slate, including The Little Mermaid, Snow White, Peter Pan & Wendy, and The Haunted Mansion.

Also in the works are a live-action Hercules and a live-action Lilo & Stitch. That’s right. Disney is taking its infamous Experiment 626, and turning his story into a live-action movie.

Right now, we don’t have a lot of details about the new live-action Lilo & Stitch movie, but we do know it will be directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and the adaptation has been written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright. And now, we have some BIG casting news!

According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, The Hangover star Zach Galifianakis will have a starring role.

Details of Galifianakis’ role are being kept in the dog pound.

The studio is conducting a wide search for the actors to play Lilo and her older sister. Stitch, naturally, will be a CG confection.

The deal marks a return to studio moviemaking for Galifianakis for the first time since 2018’s A Wrinkle in Time, also a Disney movie. The actor and comedian was a fixture on the big-screen for many years thanks to The Hangover movies and films such as Due Date. Since the late 2010s, however, Galifianakis has focused on television work, co-creating and starring in Baskets for FX, and doing plenty of voicework as well.

While The Hollywood Reporter may not know who Galifianakis is playing, The Wrap has been informed that he will be playing Pleakley, a one-eyed former member of the Galactic Federation who is tasked with tracking down Stitch when he escapes to planet Earth.

Lilo & Stitch was announced in 2018, but we do not yet know when the film is expected to be released. Disney Fanatic will keep readers updated as we learn more information about the live-action remake.
