The Margot Robbie Pirates of the Caribbean film was canceled, according to Margot Robbie herself -- but producer Jerry Bruckheimer says otherwise.

Pirates of the Caribbean and Captain Jack Sparrow fans have been clamoring for a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie that brings back the character (as portrayed by American actor Johnny Depp) for quite a while now — particularly in the wake of the Depp vs Heard trial — and it looks like those pirate enthusiasts and Johnny Depp fans might be closer to getting their wish!

The version of the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie that starred Margot Robbie was on the table, but is now “dead”, according to an interview with Vanity Fair. In the interview, the actress herself made it clear that Disney is no longer following through with her version of the movie.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer had said earlier this year that Disney was working on two options for the next movie — one with Margot and one with someone who was not Margot (aka someone who many Disney fans were hoping was secretly Johnny Depp back in his iconic role) — and judging by Margot Robbie’s statement, Disney chose the latter!

“We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would’ve been really cool,” Robbie said in the interview. “But I guess they don’t want to do it.”

Pirates of the Caribbean is certainly a hot topic in the world of Disney and movie-making right now, since Jack Sparrow fans have signed petitions by the thousands and revealed fervent plans to boycott the next movie unless Johnny Depp is back in his role.

Perhaps this controversy — and the controversy attached to Johny Depp after the Depp vs Heard trial involving himself, his ex-wife Amber Heard, and the Washington Post — is what led Disney to reconsider their plans for Pirates 6.

We had certainly heard recent rumors that Johnny Depp was being courted by Disney as the company sought his forgiveness, even though he had said during the defamation trial that he was not interested in working with Disney again and was not interested in playing Captain Jack Sparrow again for Disney — so this new job opening might mean that his pirate protagonist is indeed on his way back from the horizon!

Do you think that the cancellation of the Margot Robbie Pirates of the Caribbean movie does indeed mean that Captain Jack Sparrow is actually coming back? Would you have been excited about a Margot Robbie pirate movie? Let us know on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!
