On February 8, The Walt Disney Company held its First Quarter Earnings Call for the 2023 Fiscal Year. It was the first earnings call since Bob Iger took over as CEO of The Walt Disney Company for the second time, so investors and fans alike were looking forward to it. The call went well, with Iger making several big announcements, including an Avatar attraction coming to Disneyland Resort and the return of Disney investor dividends. However, there was also some disappointing news, including that Disney is going to lay off 7,000 Cast Members.

One of the more exciting announcements was that the Disney CEO would be giving creative power back to Disney animators and other Disney creatives. The creatives would be able to write the movies they want and market those movies the way they think is best. Along with returning the creative power to the people who should have it, Iger announced sequels to some of Disney’s most popular franchises — Toy Story, Frozen, and Zootopia.

Frozen II earned nearly $1.5 billion at the box office, while Toy Story 4 and Zootopia both broke the billion-dollar mark. At this time, Iger did not release any details on the films or what stories they will tell.

Frozen II left off with Elsa becoming the fifth spirit and journeying into the unknown to live out her destiny, while her sister Anna became the queen of Arendelle. While we don’t know what story Frozen III will tell, it will most likely show Anna and her struggles as queen, with Elsa returning to Arendelle. Since Anna is now married to Kristoff, we might even be able to see them start a family — or already have kids.

When Toy Story 4 came out in 2019, many assumed it was the end of the journey for Buzz, Woody, Bo Peep, and all of Bonnie’s beloved toys. However, it looks like that is not the case. At the end of Toy Story 4, Woody decided to stay with Bo Peep, who is no longer a part of Bonnie’s family. Buzz decides he must return to be with the other toys, and the two say a bittersweet goodbye. It was a nice ending to a great franchise, so who knows where Disney storytellers will take us next!

It has been nearly 7 years since Disney first introduced fans to the world of Zootopia and new police officer Judy Hopps. Judy is determined to stand out and make a name for herself, and she reluctantly teams up with the sly fox, Nick Wilde. It may have been a while since the film was released, but fans are more dedicated to the movie than ever. Disney has even created a new Zootopia series for Disney+, and Zootopia Land is being built at the Shanghai Disneyland Resort.

Again, Disney has not released any more details on the new Zootopia movie, but we will most likely see Nick and Judy team up once again to solve a crime within the walls of their city.

Disney Fanatic will keep readers updated as we learn more details from each of these exciting sequels!
