In what is certainly an interesting turn of events, some took a shot at the Disney executive who blamed fans for Disney’s recent failures.

It’s no secret that the Walt Disney Company has had a difficult time lately finding box office success with its films, no matter which franchise it’s from. Whether it’s Indiana Jones, any Marvel Studios release, or Star Wars, none of Disney’s films have lived up to their name lately.

Disney Executive Refuses to Take Accountability for Failures

Recently, a Disney executive went viral for all the wrong reasons when they refused to admit Disney’s role in its movies’ failures, particularly when it comes to movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars movies and TV series.

Despite Disney CEO Bob Iger acknowledging that the company needed to make real changes to its process, one anonymous executive reportedly claimed that “make better movies” is actually “code for ‘make movies that conform to regressive gender stereotypes or put men front and center in the narrative.’ Which is what you’re seeing now and what Bob [Iger]’s pivot is about right now.”

Many fans were not having this at all and immediately made their views on this perspective known, with some going so far as to speculate the gender of the executive.

One wrote, “The exec must be a woman. Can’t accept accountability for their own actions.”

Fellow fans in the thread agreed with this speculation, with one even calling out Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy by name: “Kathleen Kennedy is responsible for Star Wars content. Watch the South Park episode about her.”

Another added, “The customer(‘s wallet) is always right. If they’re not buying what you’re selling, sell what they want to buy. Making propaganda and calling it a movie isn’t what people want to buy. Who knew?!”

While there have been multiple theories as to why Disney’s latest series and films have not hit the mark, including superhero fatigue, it appears not everyone at the Mouse House is aligned in their belief of why the company isn’t doing well at the moment.

What do you think of this perspective? Do you agree? Let us know in the comments!

  1. The executive is correct. It’s the audience that is wrong. And if the audience need to be removed for a better world, so be it.
