Over the one hundred years that The Walt Disney Company has been in existence, it has created some of the most memorable characters in existence. Characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Stitch, Baymax, and so many more are loved by fans around the world. These characters are a huge part of Disney’s movies, theme parks, and merchandise.

Then there is Figment — the adorable purple dragon that was created just for a theme park at Walt Disney World Resort.
Figment was introduced — along with the rest of the Imagination Pavilion — when EPCOT opened on October 1, 1982. Five months later, he was featured in the new attraction, Journey Into Imagination. Since then, Figment has grown in popularity and is now the official mascot of EPCOT — appearing on his own merchandise, as well as merchandise for various special events like the International Festival of the Arts.
Over the years, Journey Into Imagination has undergone several major changes. In 1999, Journey Into Imagination became Journey Into YOUR Imagination, and Figment’s role was heavily removed. Journey Into Your Imagination was incredibly unpopular with guests. After just two years, the attraction was closed and reopened in 2002 as Journey Into Imagination With Figment.

Journey Into Imagination With Figment has been in place for more than 20 years and has become a more controversial ride. Many people are begging Disney to change the ride — with some even wanting the original Journey Into Imagination to return. Then there are those who want Disney to design an entirely new ride featuring Figment.
Well, Disney has just hinted that they may be listening to what Guests have to say. On November 13, Disney shared a series of TikTok videos featuring Figment as he visited The Walt Disney Company’s headquarters in Burbank, California.
In 0ne video, Figment is seen walking around Walt Disney Studios with his book of ideas. He is then seen heading into the Walt Disney Imagineering building, which is home to the creative minds behind Disney attractions.

Figment is then shown in another video walking through the Studios, and Disney said that they are letting their imagination run wild.
Wait, is that our imagination? Or is Figment really at Walt Disney Studios?

In a third video, Figment is having fun with his five senses, including playing guitar, tasting some Disney popcorn, and — in a more touching moment — putting his hand over the imprint of Tony Baxter’s Disney Legend handprint. Baxter is the former Disney Imagineer who is responsible for bringing Figment to life.

Could It Be a Ride Refurb?
In one of the videos, Disney said that they could not wait for fans to see what Figment and Disney had dreamed up. They also used the hashtag #Disney100. Disney is currently celebrating its 100th anniversary and has been creating a number of exciting films and experiences. That could mean that whatever they have created will be announced and revealed sooner rather than later.

Many followers thought that Disney was indicating that they were designing a new EPCOT ride that would replace the one that is currently there. Some even ventured so far as to think that Disney may bring Figment to the West Coast, since the Imagineering building is in Burbank — just an hour from Disneyland Resort.
What About the Movie?
In late September 2022, Deadline Hollywood reported that Disney was in the process of bringing Figment to the big screen. Figment would be getting his very own feature film.

We have almost no details on the new film, but according to Deadline, Disney has green-lit a project that will be made by, “Seth Rogen’s Point Grey with Pokémon Detective Pikachu‘s Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit set to write.”
It has been more than a year since the Figment movie was announced, and we have not heard anymore about it. It is possible Disney is preparing to give more details on the film.
