Despite Disney opening their residential complex, Flamingo Crossings Village, to all cast members, many are unimpressed with the Mouse House.
Disney has been involved in various affordable housing schemes over the years. In 2022, they shared that they were building 1,300 affordable housing units near State Road 429, just a few miles off Flamingo Crossings Town Center, with the help of the Michaels Organization.
Every time they’ve done something like this, they have gotten flack for not properly supporting cast members who struggle to make ends meet with their pay—although some believe this might change after the Walt Disney World cast member strikes.
Now, Disney has once again made a move that was meant to be inclusive, except it seems to have missed the mark.
Disney Opens Disney College Program Housing to Regular Cast Members
Disney recently announced that Flamingo Crossings, previously only for Disney College Program participants and International College Program participants, was opening up to regular cast members. This should be good news.
However, when fans did a deep dive and looked into the pricing of this housing unit, they were unimpressed.
Per the website, a two-bedroom, two-bathroom shared apartment (i.e., it houses four people) runs around $869 per person. This means the 1,009-square-foot apartment comes to about $3,476 a month.
Flamingo crossings is opening up housing for cms, and this is the hugest scam I’ve ever seen… $869 for a SHARED ROOM PER PERSON????? pic.twitter.com/dqYnM8jnd6

Prices only go up from there, with floor plans offering a two-bedroom, private room option for $1,249 a person, with the second most expensive option being a four-bedroom (private), four-bathroom plan for $1,059 per person.
Fans and even former residents were wholly unimpressed. The OP, Merry Aly, continued in their analysis of the housing offer, “Not only are there guest rules, parking is horrendous, you’ll be living in student dorms, there are constant welcome parties.”
The OP concluded, “$2500 for a 2 bed is literally what I pay for a 3 bedroom… there is no defending this… CMs get what $18 an hour??? You have to literally have to work 69 hours a month to just pay for rent.”
One former resident responded, “I lived there for my programs and barely slept due to the parties and such . I wouldn’t pay that much to live there.”

Another agreed, replying, “omg as someone who lived there for 6 months it was the absolute worst part of my program. ppl were always loud, the walls were paper thin and we got so many roaches among other problems.”
A third former resident agreed, “I [lived] at FC during my CP and it was the most miserable experience… I almost termed solely because of my living situation. I definitely don’t recommend it at all!”
This isn’t the first time Disney has gotten criticized for not being sensitive to the reality of a situation before slapping a price tag on it. Many times in the past, when Disney has donated money the company clearly has to various causes, fans and theme park guests have questioned why the company doesn’t pay its cast members better.
Now, however, the critique is that Disney is “allowing” them to live in a place they can’t afford.
It’s certainly a muddy situation.
