‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fans have a lot to celebrate and be excited about, per a recent announcement from Disney; recent reports lead us to believe that the long-standing and highly acclaimed show will be returning—in its entirety—available to stream on the newly merged Disney+ and Hulu app!
One of the most notable things that sets the Walt Disney Company apart from its competitors is the sheer volume of content it owns. Through its acquisitions of ABC, Marvel, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox, and more, the Mouse House now has the rights to distribute some of the most popular franchises of today, whether theatrically or via streaming service.

Grey’s Anatomy
Among the entertainment properties Disney owns, Grey’s Anatomy is one of the most long-running and popular shows there is. Fans have followed the lives of each of the doctors in the famous medical drama since 2005 when it first debuted on ABC.
Grey’s Anatomy focuses on the personal and professional lives of surgical interns, residents, and attendings at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital as they navigate their careers and relationships, making life-changing decisions that change their lives and those of their patients.
The show primarily follows Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) as she goes from intern to doctor to chief of general surgery at the hospital. The original cast also consisted of nine star-billed actors alongside Pompeo: Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, T. R. Knight, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Isaiah Washington, and Patrick Dempsey.
Disney Brings All 19 Seasons of Grey’s Anatomy Over to Disney+/Hulu, With A Twist
As reported by Variety, “Starting in the spring 2024, Hulu and Netflix will share the co-exclusive U.S. streaming rights to all prior 19 seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy” as part of a new licensing deal between Disney Entertainment and Netflix.”
However, while Netflix will retain the right to stream Grey’s Anatomy, only the new combined app will stream the upcoming Grey’s Anatomy Season 20.
Grey’s Anatomy is just one of the fourteen shows that Disney is reportedly going to license to Netflix on a non-exclusive basis, per sources familiar with the matter. Variety also shared that this new deal between Netflix and Disney is currently still in its final stages and has not yet been closed.
On the subject of licensing select titles to other streaming platforms (think like Amazon Prime and Netflix), Disney CEO Bob Iger said last month, that Disney would not be licensing material from their “core brands.” He commented, “I don’t see why, just to basically chase bucks, we should do that when [the franchises] are really, really important building blocks to the current and future of our streaming business.”
Grey’s Anatomy is the longest-running medical drama on primetime television and was created by Shonda Rhimes and produced by ABC Signature, as part of Disney Television Studios, and Shondaland.
