Grey’s Anatomy might be a popular medical drama that has almost 20 seasons, and it might be famous for leaving its viewers in tears since serious illnesses, heartwrenching romances, and shocking character deaths permeate many of the show’s episodes. However, this medical drama is not something that comes to mind when audiences think of Disney — but nevertheless, two of its stars have just gotten Disney Legend Awards!
Because Grey’s Anatomy is a Shonda Rhimes show on ABC, and ABC is owned by the Walt Disney Company, this rather non-magical and (at times) somewhat depressing television show falls under the Disney purview.
Ellen Pompeo has not voiced any animated Disney characters like some of the Disney Legend Award honorees that she was joining onstage, but Patrick Dempsey certainly has a Disney connection.
The handsome actor, sometimes known as McDreamy on Grey’s Anatomy, plays Amy Adams’ love interest in the Enchanted Disney movies (and yes, he is back for the new sequel, which recently wrapped filming in Ireland)!

Other honorees included the Frozen actors Idina Menzel (who performed a Disney classic), Kristen Bell, Josh Gad (who had a rather surprising speech to give), and Jonathan Groff.

Grey’s Anatomy is not the only TV show that has brought some of its actors Disney Legend status.
Black-ish stars Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson are also Disney Legends as of today’s D23 Expo — and the late actor Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous Disney Legend Award for his work in Marvel movies as T’Challa the Black Panther!
