In 2003, Disney released a live-action film based on one of its most iconic theme park attractions — the Haunted Mansion. The film starred Eddie Murphy, Marsha Thomason, Terence Stamp, Wallace Shawn, and Jennifer Tilly. Sadly, the movie was not loved by fans or critics and absolutely bombed at the box office. With just a 14% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and a 31% audience score, The Haunted Mansion is considered one of Disney’s biggest flops. But the House of Mouse is looking to change that.

For more than a decade, Disney has been working on a new live-action version of Haunted Mansion. Finally, last year, Disney shared that the new movie would be released in March 2023. The new Haunted Mansion movie will star Rosario Dawson as Gabbie, Jamie Lee Curtis as Madame Leota, Jared Leto as The Hatbox Ghost, Owen Wilson as a priest, and Danny DeVito as a history professor. Disneyland’s iconic Haunted Mansion attraction is located in New Orleans Square, and the new film will also take place in New Orleans.

After months and months of learning who will be in the movie and what the storyline will be, Disney has finally given fans a brand-new look at the live-action remake. On March 1, Disney shared a look at the movie’s new poster! Take a look!

Look alive. @HauntedMansion teaser trailer appearing tomorrow.

What a spooky and fun poster. Now, if you look carefully at the painting-lined hallway, you can see that one of the paintings from the infamous stretching room is hanging in the hallway. Do you see it? Look on the left side of the hall, about three paintings down. That’s right, it’s the widow sitting on top of her husband’s grave! What a great way to honor such a fantastic attraction!

At this time, Disney’s new Haunted Mansion film is scheduled to be released on July 28. Originally, the film was supposed to be released on March 10. The film was then pushed back to August 11. However, on February 17, Disney announced that its Marvels film had been pushed back to November 11, leaving open a July 28 spot. Disney then moved the Haunted Mansion release date up to July 28. Hopefully, the movie’s release will stay where it is!

Haunted Mansion will tell the story of Gabbie (Dawson) and her son Travis (Chase Dillon), who move into an old mansion in New Orleans. As the title indicates, the mansion is haunted (who would have guessed?!), so Gabbie enlists the help of many people, including a historian, a priest, a psychic (Tiffany Haddish), and a paranormal expert (LaKeith Stanfield).

The film was written by Katie Dippold and was directed by Justin Simien.
