In March 2018, Disney announced that it would be closing the beloved Bug’s Land area at Disney California Adventure Park at Disneyland Resort. Bug’s Land was full of fun rides and an interactive splash pad that was the perfect place for parents with young children to take a break. The area would be transformed into a first-of-its-kind Avengers Campus. Bug’s Land officially closed on September 4, 2018, and Disney crews quickly got to work on the massive Marvel transformation.
Disney announced Avengers Campus at the 2017 D23 Expo, but details were almost non-existent. Earlier that same year, Disney had opened Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, which had taken the place of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Tower of Terror was located right next to the Bug’s Land area, so the location of Avengers Campus made sense.
When more details were released on Avengers Campus, Disney said that guests would be able to sling webs like Spider-Man on an all-new interactive attraction. But the big news was that there would be a brand-new E-ticket attraction that was sure to blow guests away. Avengers Campus was slated to open in 2020 as Disneyland Resort celebrated its 65th Anniversary.
Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic hit that year and the world was forced to shut down. Disneyland Resort was closed for more than a year, not reopening until April 2021. Avengers Campus officially opened on June 4, 2021.
When Avengers Campus opened, the only attraction to open with it was WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure. Disney shared no information on the E-ticket attraction that guests were expecting, leading many to fear that the attraction would never come to fruition.
Two years have come and gone since the opening, and Disney has shared almost nothing more on the theme park ride. However, ex-Disney CEO Bob Chapek did confirm that the attraction was still happening during the 2022 D23 Expo.
That has now changed.
Disney is currently hosting Destination D23 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. At the Parks Panel held on the morning of September 9, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro finally shared concept art for the new Avengers ride.

According to Walt Disney Imagineering, the new attraction will feature “King Thanos”. As Marvel fans know, Thanos was ultimately defeated in Avengers: Endgame, which was released in 2019.
But what if he didn’t?
The new Marvel Cinematic Universe ride will take guests into a world where Thanos defeated the Avengers. They will team up with superheroes from across the Multiverse to take down Thanos once and for all. As the new concept art reveals, the ride will utilize elements of Tony Stark’s (Iron Man) time-suits, Xandarian jump points, and Wakandan technology.
Disney first shared the above image in 2022 at the Super Heroes at Disney Parks Panel at New York Comic Con, along with the few details we have on the ride.
More details on the new theme park attraction, as well as an opening date, will be announced at a later date.
