If there is one thing that Disney knows how to do really well, it’s create incredible animated films. The Walt Disney Company has been doing it since the early 1900s, when they created Steamboat Willie. Since then, they have created dozens of memorable films. Films like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog, and so many more. And now, Disney has given fans a first look at its newest animated film, scheduled to be released later this year.
At the 2022 D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, Walt Disney Animation Studios announced that it was going back to its roots and creating a brand-new animated film. The film is called Wish. Wish stars Ariana DeBose, as Asha, a young girl who makes a wish and then gets more than she bargains for when she has to deal with a trouble-making star who comes down to help her.
Before now, we had only had some images to look at, but on April 27, Disney dropped a teaser trailer for the film. You can watch it below!

As you can see, Disney has gone back to its more traditional animated roots. However, it has given the film a more modern twist by combining 2D and 3D animation styles.
More on Wish
As stated above, Wish stars Ariana Debose as the voice of Asha. Asha lives in the Kingdom of Rosas. Rosas is a place where dreams really can come true. Asha makes a wish on a star, but things go slightly awry. Asha’s wish is so powerful that a cosmic force is created to help her. The star she wished on — conveniently named Star — comes down to help her on her journey. Star is a bit of a wildcard, so things get a little chaotic.
Together, Star and Asha — along with Asha’s goat, Valentino — must work together to bring down King Magnifico. King Magnifico will be voiced by Chris Pine. Pine has worked with Disney in the past, playing Nicholas Devereaux in the 2004 film, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. King Magnifico is being described as one of the most “formidable foes” Disney has ever created. Valentino will be voiced by Disney star Alan Tudyk.
Disney has not announced an official release date for Wish, but has said that it will premiere in theaters this November. Wish was written by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, the writers and directors of the hit 2013 film, Frozen. Buck also directed Wish, alongside Fawn Veerasunthorn. Veerasunthorn has worked in the animation department for a number of hit Disney films, including Zootopia and Raya and the Last Dragon.
