Disney Rocks Fans’ World With Surprise “Pixie” Announcement

Disney World’s brand-new little Shetland pony foal has already captured many Disney fans’ hearts with her snow-white coat and tiny size, but now this very young Shetland pony is about to take the Disney Fanatic community by storm again!

Cinderella’s newest friend has just officially been given the name Pixie (perhaps in reference to her small size and delicate nature — or perhaps related to her spunkiness, if the name is meant to be a shoutout to the feisty Pixie Hollow fairy named Tinker Bell).

What’s in a Name?

Pixie’s name is a surprise, partly because Disney did not share a poll online asking for fans’ suggestions (which has been done sometimes in the past) and partly because her name came so soon after her birth announcement.

According to WFTV, “the theme park announced the Shetland pony foal’s name on Friday, inspired by [Tinkerbell’s] pixie dust.”

Even though fans were surprised to learn the new foal’s name so quickly (and without any input of their own), the surprise was a pleasant one.

After all, who could look at this adorable foal’s face without releasing some unplanned “awwwws”?

Lady and the Pixie

Pixie can be seen in the photos below frolicking with her mother Lady in the pastures at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch within Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, located in Bay Lake.

The Tri-Circle-D Ranch houses the horses that pull carriages in the Disney Parks, as well as the horses that are used by Fort Wilderness Guests for eco-conscious trail rides (which use an innovative technology, as it happens).

Smaller Than You Think!

If you’re not already familiar with the diminutive size of Shetland ponies, then take a look at these photos of Pixie and Lady with one of Disney’s ranch employees! As you can see, Shetland ponies are far smaller than other pony breeds or horses.

Pixie will soon be joining the other baby Shetland ponies, Sprout and Finn, in the ranch pastures — and when she turns two, she will begin her training to pull Cinderella’s carriage in the Magic Kingdom for parades and Disney Fairy Tale Weddings!

Pixie has some catching up to do, because her older sister Lilly (who got some screen time in Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom on Disney+) already leads Cinderella’s carriage team of white ponies!

However, with Pixie’s new name bolstering her and the support of her parents Lady and Ferdinand (who have both worked with Cinderella as well), we have no doubt that this incredibly cute steed will rise in the ranks — and make any passersby smile when they see her in the Bay Lake ranch pastures, too!
