Disneyland Resort’s Monorail system abruptly closed on Wednesday morning, forcing guests to walk to Disneyland Park’s main entrance instead of taking the tram from Downtown Disney District to Tomorrowland.
X (formerly known as Twitter) user @laughingplace posted photos on February 25 of a sign stating that the “Disneyland Monorail is currently unavailable”:

Disneyland Resort provided no explanation for the closure.
Brief Reopening, Then Closed Again

Thirty minutes later, @laughingplace reported the Monorail showed as operating in the Disneyland Resort app:

The reopening was short-lived. At the time of this article’s publication, the Disneyland Resort app still listed the Monorail as “temporarily closed.”

Guests must walk between Downtown Disney and Disneyland Park’s main entrance until the system reopens.
Scheduled March 30 Closure Approaching
Wednesday’s unexpected shutdown preceded an already-announced refurbishment. Earlier this month, Disneyland Resort confirmed the Monorail and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin will close on March 30 for maintenance.

Disneyland Resort’s operating calendar currently extends only through early April, showing the Monorail closed throughout that period. No reopening date has been announced. Recent construction permits revealed plans for upgrades to support pillars and electrical work, so visible changes may be minimal when the system returns.
Wednesday’s temporary closure raises questions about whether operational issues are prompting the March 30 refurbishment or if the abrupt shutdown was unrelated to the planned maintenance. The brief reopening followed by another closure suggests potential mechanical problems with the historic transportation system.
The Monorail provides a 2.5-mile shortcut from Downtown Disney to Tomorrowland, eliminating the need to walk to Disneyland Park’s main entrance. Extended closures force all guests through the primary entrance, increasing congestion at security checkpoints and park gates.
