Disney’s Hollywood Studios has become one of the most challenging parks at Walt Disney World to fully experience in a single day.
Between Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, and a growing collection of popular attractions, guests often find themselves facing long lines from the moment the park opens until late in the evening. For many visitors, the biggest challenge is deciding which attractions deserve priority and which ones may have to wait for another trip.

Now Disney is making a change that could make that decision a little easier.
The company has extended operating hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on several dates later this summer, creating more opportunities for guests to experience some of the park’s most popular attractions after many daytime crowds have already headed home.
Disney Extends Hollywood Studios Hours
Disney frequently adjusts park hours as vacation periods approach. While initial schedules are released months in advance, operating hours often change based on projected attendance and seasonal demand.
This summer, Disney has added later closing times for Hollywood Studios on select nights.
Currently, the park is scheduled to remain open until 10:00 p.m. on August 7, 11, 14, 18, and 21. Those dates coincide with nights when Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party takes place at Magic Kingdom.
The timing is hardly a coincidence.
Whenever the Halloween party is held, Magic Kingdom closes early to regular day guests. Many visitors either purchase party tickets or choose to spend their day elsewhere. Extending hours at Hollywood Studios gives guests another option while helping spread crowds across the resort.
Why Rise of the Resistance Benefits Most
The biggest winner may be Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
Since opening, the attraction has remained one of the most popular rides at Walt Disney World. Despite being several years old, it still attracts lengthy waits throughout much of the day.
It isn't unusual to see posted waits exceed an hour during peak periods, particularly during the summer travel season.
However, the final hours before park closing often tell a different story.
As families begin leaving for dinner reservations, transportation needs, or simply because they are exhausted after a long day in the parks, standby lines frequently become more manageable.
An extra hour of operation creates even more opportunity for guests to take advantage of those lower waits.
Instead of joining the rush first thing in the morning, some visitors may find better success waiting until the evening to tackle one of Disney's most ambitious attractions.

Slinky Dog Dash Also Gets Easier
Rise of the Resistance isn't the only attraction that benefits from later hours.
Slinky Dog Dash remains one of the most difficult Lightning Lane reservations to secure and one of the most popular standby attractions in the park.
The family coaster routinely posts some of the highest wait times in Hollywood Studios.
Like Rise of the Resistance, however, Slinky Dog Dash often becomes much more manageable late in the evening.
Many experienced Disney guests already use a nighttime strategy for Toy Story Land, choosing to visit after sunset when crowds begin to thin and temperatures become more comfortable.
The extended operating hours simply provide more time to make that strategy work.
A Better Alternative to Rope Drop?
For years, rope dropping has been considered the gold standard for conquering Hollywood Studios.
Guests arrive before opening, rush toward headliner attractions, and attempt to experience major rides before crowds fully build.
While that approach can still be effective, later operating hours create another option.
Rather than waking up before sunrise and joining the morning crowds, guests can enjoy a more relaxed pace throughout the day and save some of the most popular attractions for later in the evening.
For many families, especially those traveling with children, that may be a much more enjoyable way to experience the park.
Summer Nights at Hollywood Studios
The additional August hours aren't the only examples of Disney leaning into nighttime operations this summer.
Hollywood Studios has also remained open until 10:00 p.m. on select dates leading up to Halloween party season, giving guests additional opportunities to experience the park after dark.
That's particularly important because many fans consider nighttime the best time to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
The land takes on an entirely different atmosphere after sunset. The lighting throughout Batuu becomes more dramatic, the Millennium Falcon stands out against the night sky, and the overall environment feels more immersive.
For guests hoping to maximize their vacation, Disney's extended hours may end up delivering something even more valuable than extra time.
They may provide a rare chance to experience Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, and other Hollywood Studios favorites without spending a huge portion of the day standing in line.
