The movie Encanto takes place in Colombia and follows Mirabel Madrigal, a young woman who feels like the black sheep in her big Colombian family. This extraordinary family was blessed by a magical candle, which gave them magical gifts and unique abilities that not only allow them all to communicate with their enchanted house but also allow individual family members to possess special powers.
As the one Madrigal family member without any magical gifts (aside from interacting with the Madrigal family home, which everyone can do), Mirabel understandably feels left out and questions her role. But when her family’s magic and their home is threatened, Mirabel just might end up being the one family member who can save them all!
Mirabel is played by Stephanie Beatriz, an actress who many people might not know yet. Another notable cast member is Maluma, the famous Colombian singer and Latin Grammy Award-winning performer who voices the handsome town heartthrob Mariano in Encanto. With its vibrant animation, beautiful music (with original songs by Lin Manuel Miranda), and its expansive incorporation of Latin American culture, this movie promises to be an exciting and inspiring movie for the whole family to enjoy!
The Walt Disney Animation Studios movie was directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush, produced by Yvett Merino and Clark Spencer, and has a screenplay by Charise Castro Smith. Other voice actors for Encanto include Wilmer Valderrama (who will also be playing Zorro soon) as AgustĂn Madrigal, John Leguizamo as Bruno Madrigal, Diane Guerrero as Mirabel Madrigal’s perfect sister Isabela Madrigal, Jessica Darrow as Mirabel’s muscular sister Luisa Madrigal, and MarĂa Cecilia Botero as Mirabel’s grandmother Abuela Alma Madrigal.
The movie’s name has a double meaning, so many Disney fanatics will be curious to see if the movie’s title is a clue regarding the secret power that Mirabel uses to save the Madrigal magic and her extraordinary family. Have you already seen Encanto? If you did see this Disney film, have you been tiding yourself over with Encanto merchandise until it comes to Disney+?Â
