‘WandaVision’ Star Cast as Lead in New TRON Movie

In 1982, Walt Disney Studios brought viewers into the digital landscape with the futuristic movie TRONTRON starred Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn, a computer programmer who is sucked into the computer program he created. While trapped there, he interacts with a series of programs and is forced to compete in brutal games in an attempt to escape. The movie was moderately successful, with the acting and groundbreaking visuals receiving praise from both critics and audiences. Nearly 30 years later, Disney finally released the sequel, TRON: Legacy.

The second film was even more popular than the first, with TRON: Legacy, and both films received Academy Award nominations. Disney has decided not to wait another three decades before releasing a third film in the franchise. Disney is actively working on the third film, called Tron: Ares. In fact, the studio has been working on the film for 10 years. At this time, we don’t know anything about what the third film’s story will be about, but we do know who two of its stars will be.

Suicide Squad star Jared Leto signed onto the project early, and was the only known cast member for a while. However, we have now learned that Disney has signed WandaVision star Evan Peters in another lead role. Peters has appeared in several superhero movies and played Pietro Maximoff, AKA Quicksilver, in the hit Disney+ show, WandaVision. He also played Jeffrey Dahmer in the Netflix movie Dahmer: Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

Jared Leto has also worked closely with Disney and will appear as The Hatbox Ghost when Disney’s new movie, The Haunted Mansion, hits theaters on July 28. The film will also star Rosario Dawson, Danny DeVito, Owen Wilson, LaKeith Stanfield, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

At this time, we know that Jared Leto will be playing the lead role of Ares. We do not know who Peters will be portraying. Tron: Ares is being directed by Joachim Rønning, who has worked with Disney several times in the past. Rønning directed both Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Tron: Ares is set to start filming in August in Canada. It is expected to be released in late 2025.

The film is being made while the hype around TRON is still relatively high. TRON Lightcycle/Run opened up at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park on April 4, 2023. TRON Lightcycle/Run takes Guests into the grid and has them compete, just like in the movies.

Disney Fanatic will keep readers updated as we learn more Tron: Ares casting news, as well as when we learn a storyline for the upcoming film.
