Ke Huy Quan has become an overnight sensation since returning to Hollywood in last year’s best picture winner Everything Everywhere All At Once. After charmingly receiving an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, he has starred in several new projects, including one for The Walt Disney Company. Now fans demand that he return to his roots and continue the Indiana Jones franchise.
Quan’s past claim to fame is playing the loveable Short Round from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Short Round is a resourceful and loyal young boy who serves as Indiana Jones’ trusty sidekick during the film. He provides comedic relief and displays bravery and quick thinking throughout their perilous adventures. Fans adore him and want to see more Short Round now that Quan is acting again. With this in mind, could Disney be sleeping on a perfect new Indiana Jones spinoff series?
Passing the Torch to Ke Huy Quan
Harrison Ford is and will remain the only true Indiana Jones. However, the actor has clarified that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be his last time taking up the mantle. Fans understand this and largely do not want anyone to replace him, but they think there could still be great stories to tell within its narrative.
Ke Huy Quan and Harrison Ford became fast friends again during the premiere of the latest movie in the franchise. Quan surprised Ford at the screening, which caused fans worldwide to admire Quan even more.

Indiana Jones buffs now believe the perfect way to keep the Indiana Jones IP alive is by bringing back Ke Huy Quan to reprise his role as an adult Short Round. He wouldn’t have to replace Harrison Ford, but the torch would be passed to his now-adult character to go on similar adventures and bring a fresh take via a streaming series.
Okay, in a world where every IP is rung out like a rag, why not make Ke Huy Quan the successor to Indiana Jones with a spinoff series? It's literally the perfect idea. pic.twitter.com/zNknFZ8L1m

Ke Huy Quan’s Interest in an Indiana Jones Spinoff Series
Ke Huy Quan has expressed excitement when asked about revisiting the character of Short Round. He told Variety:
If Disney or Lucasfilm ever come to me and say, ‘We want to do a Short Round spinoff,’ I’m there man! I love that character so much and it would just be incredible to revisit so many years later.
Fans have continued to fuel the discussion on Reddit. While many are a bit reluctant to give weight to the idea of a box office movie, they would welcome a chance to see what Short Round is up to as a Disney+ series. Much like Quan, they like the idea of the character becoming an archeologist based on how much he looked up to Indiana Jones.
I know we pretty much want Indiana to die with Harrison Ford but if anyone deserves to carry the torch of Indy surely it’s Ke Huy Quan. I’d be down to have a Disney Plus limited series. 6-8 episodes.

Where Lucasfilm decides to take the Indiana Jones series next is anyone’s guess, though it might end with this last movie. However, the studio would be wise to consider an Indiana Jones spinoff due to Ke Huy Quan’s current fame and renewed interest in the franchise due to the new film.
