A massive fire broke out in April at a popular attraction at the Disneyland ResortĀ  in California. The giant Maleficent dragon anamatronic at the Fantasmic Show went up in flames. Since then, many Disney Park locations around the globe have ceased the use of flames in daily events. Those missing the fire effect of the Festival of Fantasy Parade’s Maleficent dragon float will be happy to know that the flame has returned to Magic Kingdom. However, there is a catch to its return, and you should know some advice when planning a trip to Walt Disney World.

Is the Maleficent Dragon Float Back to Normal?

During a Fantasmic performance at Disneyland, the anamatronic Maleficent Dragon was fully engulfed in its own flames due to a malfunction. There was little left of the impressive beast after the fire. Many fans nicknamed the animatronic “Murphy” after Murphy’s Law because something seemed to always go wrong with it.

Fantasmic has not returned to Disnyland since the incident, and many believe that the accident spelled the end for the show altogether. The California theme park is definitely missing the show as it was highly considered to be one of the best experiences at the Park.

Thankfully, the Maleficent dragon float at Festival of Fantasy is not suffering the same fate. While the dragon stopped breathing fire for some time, it now utilizes the effect again in daily operations.

One thing to note, however, is that the beast allegedly only breathes fire in certain parts of the parade route now. Walt Disney World is being extra careful to not have the effect go off in areas with highly flammable objects nearby.

Festival of Fantasy also had a fire break out a few years ago, sending this very float up in flames. The dragon disappeared for quite some time, but was eventually brought back after being repaired. The Disneyland anamatronic had little left to repair after its fire was put out, meaning the creature is likely never to return to California.

Luckily, if you want to see some impressive fire effects on your trip to Walt Disney World in Florida, that Maleficent dragon is waiting for you.
