Florida Governor Ron DeSantis preened at a press conference after a federal judge dismissed the lawsuit Disney had filed against him.

Anyone who’s been following the battle between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Walt Disney Company will know that recently, the Florida Governor saw a notable victory. On January 31, 2024, Federal Judge Allen Winsor dismissed the Walt Disney Company’s First Amendment lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Judge Winsor argued DeSantis’ actions were constitutionally sound and Disney’s case did not have a leg to stand on.

DeSantis Celebrates His Victory Against Disney

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis took a “victory lap” sharing his thoughts about the dismissal of the lawsuit. He commented, “I would like to see an accounting from some of the people who, last year, were trying to say that Disney ‘outmaneuvered’ Florida…I don’t hear very much now that the case was summarily dismissed.”

Governor DeSantis said that there was a lot of “squawking” about the case back when many believed that Disney was “in the right” about all of this and back when Disney was “using it to try to attack Florida or try to attack [DeSantis].”

Of course, while many have been reporting on the news, DeSantis supporters have also been sharing their support for the Florida Governor and insisting that DeSantis was the governor who knew how to “beat wokeness.”

One wrote, “Remember when Trump was rooting for Disney against DeSantis! Well, I have news for Trump. DeSantis beat Disney! DeSantis knows exactly how to beat wokeness!

This said Disney has made clear they’re going to appeal the case, to which the Florida Governor responded he was “shocked.” He also shared that, in his view, Disney appealing the case was “a mistake.”

He concluded, ostensibly addressing Disney, “I think they should just move on; you’re in the State that’s number one for business in America right now. We have the lowest unemployment among large states, highest GDP growth among large states. Is it so bad that you have to live under the same laws as everybody else, including your competitors?”
