The Walt Disney Company and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have been in a lengthy dispute for several months, and despite our belief that the issue had been resolved, it seems to resurface repeatedly. Every time we were under the impression the fight was over and one side had “won,” another would land a blow and restart it again. Recently, despite DeSantis removing Reedy Creek’s self-governing status and assigning a new board—the Central Tourism Oversight Committee—Disney pulled a clever maneuver and retained their power.

It was, by all accounts, an incredibly smart move on the part of the Mouse House. However, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis did not take too kindly to the move and has been threatening to take Disney to court and also impose new tolls and taxes on the Disney Resort.
However, some Floridians are quite done with the whole situation and have asked Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to give up the “ridiculous fight” with Disney and focus on Florida’s “real needs.”

The Tampa Bay Times editorial board published an article recently wherein they asked, “How much more time, money and credibility does Gov. Ron DeSantis intend to waste with his phony-baloney war against the Walt Disney Co.?”
The board elaborated,
This crusade is crazy and it’s gone on long enough. The average Floridian doesn’t wake up worrying about Walt Disney World. They don’t stay up nights fretting over Disney’s policies or its relationship with the governor. This is just another example of DeSantis punishing someone for having exercised their free speech rights. Getting outfoxed is embarrassing. But as former President Bill Clinton famously said, when you find yourself in a hole, quit digging.

It’s certainly ridiculous to think that what started one year ago with the “Don’t Say Gay” debacle has escalated and become this never-ending feud that might now go to court. As the board said, “Floridians need a governor, not a Theme Park administrator. The revenues in the Disney-area district have much better uses than for legal fees in a frivolous case.”
