On January 23, 2023, Walt Disney World’s iconic attraction Splash Mountain became a piece of Disney history. The attraction — which had been a Magic Kingdom staple for around 30 years — closed and is being rethemed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. On the last day Splash Mountain was open, the line rarely got below three hours as Guests wanted to venture into the Laughin’ Place one more time.
While many were fine with just having wonderful memories, other Guests wanted to ride the attraction to see if they could make a profit. Throughout the day, postings went up on eBay selling authentic Splash Mountain water for absolutely outrageous prices.
Splash Mountain water for sale quickly went viral, and one Disney fan decided to have a little bit of fun with it. Just Disney shared a picture on its Facebook page of someone selling ghosts from the classic Disney attraction, The Haunted Mansion.
Taking the lead from people selling water in jars from Splash Mountain… I’ll be selling ghosts in jars from The Haunted Mansion. Each jar comes individually numbered, 1-999. ??
Sadly, we don’t know how much it will cost to buy one of the 999 happy haunts that inhabit the Haunted Mansion, but we’re sure you can reach out to the poster — Jim O’Rear — and ask about it.
Both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort will see Splash Mountain change into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The change from Splash Mountain to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was announced in 2020 as more and more people called the ride out for the problematic film — The Song of the South — that the attraction was based on.
Here’s more on what Guests can expect with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure:
The story takes place after the ending of the film around 1927. Tiana’s Palace has become enough of a success that Tiana and Naveen decided to expand their business and establish an employee owned food cooperative, Tiana’s Foods, which has purchased an old salt mine to serve as a headquarters. As Tiana prepares to host a large party for Mardi Gras, she and the guests journey into the bayou to find a key ingredient for the festivities.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is scheduled to open at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort in late 2024. While Splash Mountain at the Magic Kingdom is closed, the Disneyland attraction remains open for now. Disney has not yet announced when Disneyland’s Splash Mountain will close.
