Over the past one hundred years, The Walt Disney Company worked hard to build up the reputation of being one of the best companies in the entertainment and theme park industries. Walt Disney Animation Studios put out some of the most popular and memorable movies ever, including Cinderella (1950), Aladdin (1992), Beauty and the Beast (1991), The Little Mermaid (1989), Encanto (2021), and Frozen (2013).

Disney parks also became incredibly desirable places to work. Guests visiting the theme parks were able to look at a cast member’s name tag and see where they were from. Cast members came from all over the world, especially to work at places like Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Disney even has a special program that brings people from other countries to work in their parks.
Sadly, over the past few years, Disney’s reputation of being a great company to work for has gone down the drain. There are still people who love being a part of the magic, but with the rise of social media, more and more former cast members are revealing their stories. And, according to them, working for Disney was anything but magical.
TikToker Jonathan (@sweatyoracle) has shared a number of stories about the time he worked at Walt Disney World Resort. In the past, he has admitted to being taken to “Disney jail” and telling inappropriate jokes while he worked at the Hall of Presidents and Pirates of the Caribbean.
However, one of his recent stories had a more serious tone.
In the story, he recalled when he worked at The Most Magical Place on Earth on Christmas Day in 2013. He said that he worked 60 hours per week, but it was not enough money to pay rent, pay bills, and pay for groceries. So, his Christmas meal consisted of a peanut butter sandwich made with a stale hot dog bun.

Back then, cast members had much stricter rules when it came to the “Disney look.” Male cast members had very particular guidelines they had to follow when it came to facial hair. Jonathan said that his beard was a little long and was told he would have to shave. He said that he was forced to shave in the bathroom without shaving cream, while his stomach remained nearly empty.
Jonathan said that he was happy to see Disney “imploding” because of the poor treatment that he hard-working cast members receive.
There were a lot of comments on the video, with many claiming that they also used to work at a Disney park, and received the same kind of terrible treatment. One commenter, Ryan Connelly, said that the exact same “shaving” incident happened to him as well.
Glad we both had to experience the “not being Disney look” and forced to dry shave at 8 in the morning on an empty stomach
Disney’s treatment of its cast members — mainly when it comes to their pay — has even been making headlines. In July 2023, the California appellate court determined that Disney had been evading the state’s minimum wage law. That meant that thousands of Disneyland Resort cast members were not paid what they should have been, and Disney owed them.
Over in Disneyland Paris, cast members went on strike over the summer as they also fought for higher wages. Cast members actually got into the parks to protest, causing the cancellation of events within the parks. Things got so bad that Disney encouraged guests who were planning on visiting Disneyland Paris to rebook their trip.
Walt Disney World cast members have also fought back against Disney’s low wages. Florida is known for being more affordable than a state like California, but Orlando, Florida, is seeing a drastic rise in rent, making it increasingly more difficult for a person to afford a place to live on their own. But it should be noted that earlier this year, Disney World raised its cast member pay to $18 per hour. Florida’s minimum wage is currently just $12 per hour.
Do you think cast members have a right to be mad at Disney? Let us know in the comments!
Ah, poor guys. They had to shave when they knew they were not meeting the company standards. Was it really Disneys fault that he did t eat before going to work? Welcome to corporate America. All of the people complaining were well aware of the rules going in. They were also aware of the overtime pay they were getting for working all of those hours. Boo hoo!!
If you don’t like your job…leave and stop whining..
The “real world has rule and long hours also.
Yes they might be happy to see Disney implode, but what about all the current cast members who would then lose their jobs.
